11/20/23: We came to Newport for a mini birthday getaway for my partner and this restaurant was where we chose to celebrate his birthday. The Good: Food was amazing, I had the homemade lobster pasta special of the day & my partner had the penne con rabe w/sausage. The chef is definitely on point! We also had a nice bottle of 2016 Italian wine. The restaurant has nice lighting and the adjacent wine bar looks nice. The NOT so good: We weren’t even asked if we wanted dessert and coffee even though I made it known that it was my partners birthday and we were there to celebrate! Sadly everything felt rushed. I know folks are tired and want to go home but customers also want to feel appreciated! Not even a thanks for coming! I ended up asking for dessert to go so my partner could at least have something sweet to eat back at the Inn. The waiter looked quite annoyed when I asked. He came back with 1 small slice of cheesecake 🤷🏻♀️ He jetted the second we paid our bill, no one was in sight when we left! It sounds like I’m complaining and I definitely am! It was my partners birthday and we spent almost $200 so I was expecting a bit more. The waiter did however bring dessert and sing happy birthday to some other people. 11/21/23: I was quite surprised to receive a call from this restaurant. They apologized for the experience and offered to make it right. For this reason I will increase rating to 4 stars. Thank you for reaching out.

A great new addition to the Newport restaurant scene, Vieste serves up some truly great dishes in a fresh traditional Italian way. The chicken parmesan was a juicy tender generous serving with a nice crunchy coating with an excellent tomato marinara made from fresh ripe tomatoes and herbs that really made the dish stand out. The tomato sauce was definitely one of the best I have had. The pesto spaghetti was also excellent with a nice balance of fresh garlic, basil, parm and pine nuts combined with a good quality olive oil. The striped sea bass was cooked perfectly and served on a lovely mixed greens and blue potato salad with a balsamic dressing. Service was also excellent with all the staff genuinely happy and welcoming offering attentive and friendly service making their customers feel like home. They get a rare five star rating, hopefully they can keep creating and innovating with fresh ingredients.

We visited Newport this weekend for our 20th anniversary. We learned of Vieste through the Newport Foodies Stroll (it’s part of the tour and is the favorite restaurant of the tour guide Tom and his wife). We went for dinner and it was a treat! We had the artichoke appetizer (a special that day). So tangy and fresh. We also had the arancini and the signature gigantic meatball. They did not disappoint. My husband had the ravioli, which were light and tender and I had the Fusilli Calabrese alla Putanesca. The pasta was so fresh and silky smooth, the shrimp were so perfectly cooked and flavorful and the sauce was mouth-watering. We couldn’t get enough of the homemade focaccia. Great way to bring our fabulous weekend to a close. Highly recommend.

I am convinced that Newport restaurants are no longer trying to make good food because they only have to cater to tourists who will never be back. The place was empty, but they tried to sit us in the covered area that was freezing, but it was so hot inside it was almost unbearable. The crab cakes came out cold. The server was very apologetic and put in a new order immediately. The giant meatball came out ice cold in the middle and what they are calling chicken Piccata is nothing close. It was basically soup. This was subpar Italian food that was extremely overpriced. Over $150 for 2 people, and we threw the leftovers away when we got home.

Vieste was excellent! The meal started with the normal bread and oil but I found both to be top quality. For starters we had the Caprese Salad which was topped with some really fantastic prosciutto. Highly recommend the salad. We also had Bruschetta. I can't even describe it, you have to look at the photo. Again, fantastic. For the main course we split the Gnocchi al Pomodoro but subbed the Bolognese sauce for the Marinara. We enjoyed a glass of the Passimento (Merlot) with the meal. It was a fantastic, super filling meal for two. Highly recommend. As a final note, it has its own parking lot, which is a nice feature in Newport.

Really our meal when we visited during our stay in Newport. Nice greeting and seated quickly, waitress could advise on menu and answer some questions we had. We ordered Arancini as a starter to share and they were large in size and great tasting plenty to share between two people. For mains we had spaghetti and meatball which has one massive meatball which gives it quite a solid consistency but it did have a good taste. The other meal was the Milanese which agin was large in size and good tasting and all food was freshly prepared. We had a bottle of wine to share which at $42 has the usual markup but I guess we expect this.
