To begin with it was hard to ask questions, before making the trip. We called during business hours and had to leave a name, number and message. About two hours later somebody called us back.
We then made the 45 minute trip. It was nothing like we expected, store was very small, low on stock and the lady rather unfriendly. We explained to her that we had purchased several 3 packs of Affy Tapples at our local Jewel and about 50% were rotten. Her response resembled a grunt. We purchased less than we expected to because the expiration dates were only a few days away, and the apples very small. We bought 2 with peanuts, 2 with Halloween sprinkles, and 2 plain - I also got a plain deluxe apple which was more than double the price but appeared to have extra caramel and was large.
At the register we commented that we hoped we would have a better experience, her response a simple well you should.
Now that we have eaten most of our apples I can say I'm extremely disappointed! The peanut apples were fine, but the both the plain and sprinkled apples were soft and mealy inside, nothing crisp at all about them. The caramel was watery and kind of slid off the apple in spots and getting them out of the paper cups was very hard (I always get plain or sprinkled apples and have never had a severe issue like this). And tonight I cut into my large premium apple only to find it brown and rotten inside.
I will not ever make the trip to their store again, and kind if feel like this should be an outlet or factory second store as the apples were definitely not fresh, nor were they cheaper than in the grocery store. I was also shocked that they did not even apologize for the bad apples we had received at Jewel. This experience will likely cause me to think twice about ever purchasing affy Tapples anywhere again!
There are much better...
Read moreAffy Tapple Caramel Apple with Sprinkles: Now that autumn is upon us I can start to enjoy some seasonal treats (along with the fall colors all the good food is the only consolation to the death of summer). I could not have cared less for caramel apples as a kid, but I sure do love them now. Affy Tapple offers a few different varieties, but my current favorite is the sprinkle version. Visually the treat looks gorgeous. It's an apple coated with delicious caramel and a thick veil of sprinkles. The sprinkles come in a gorgeous rainbow of colors and it looks fantastic. Taking a bite out of this thing gives me a major sugar rush and I'm not complaining. The caramel coating is thick, chewy, and sweet, while the sprinkles add a little crunch and a second jolt of sugar. I prefer these apples over other brands because they are reasonably sized and priced. These aren't your steroid infused apples that are 4x the size of standard apples, so eating one won't kill your diet or give you diabetes. One apple is 225 calories (the 28g of sugar is more of the concern). Doughboy approved!...
Read moreWe attended the small family festival they had. My toddler had so much fun! She loved the mascot ,and the glitter, and airbrush tattoos. My teenager loved the fact, that there were other treats available other then only apples. My husband and I enjoyed seeing the kids have a good time. We also bought a case of apples. We passed a lot of them out. We only kept about 8 of them and within 4-5 days, they were starting to ooze caramel out of the container. When I went to cut one, the stick came right out. The apple was brown on the inside. I had to throw away the last 3 because they were so mushy. I noticed many reviews mentioning the same. My house is not warm, nor hot by any means. I did not store them in any type of warm temperature, that is exactly why I kept them on the table. Maybe the quality control, isn't what it used to be.....if so many reviews mention...
