DO NOT GO! ‼️ANIMAL ABUSE! ‼️
All the good reviews are people who were paid by the owners, don’t let them fool you.
There is no walk ways, you are walking through tall grass hopefully you don’t get fleas and ticks like all the animals have.
Some crazy lady was going around reminding people that the animals are in a “5 Star” hotel, and get an Amazing meal. Tell me why the zoo keeper ( 1 ) went to feed a damn squirrel what looked like MOLDY APPLES AND BISCUITS.
$40 for 3 people plus $3 for food was not unreasonable but $3 to feed your starving unkept and mistreated animals was my problem! Hand out the food for free if you can’t walk back there your damn self and feed them!
I HAVE BEEN TO almost every ZOO “NATIONAL” ZOO AND THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST ZOO TO EVER BE RAN!
The monkeys have fleas and ticks and are going through it because the damn zoo keepers won’t properly take care of them, monkeys are the closest thing to a human and to be treated that way, I now understand why they have no staff.
The Owners suck, should never own a pet let alone a damn ZOO!! And animal control should be called if they do have any of there own “ house pets”
Seeing how the zoo was ran today was literally heartbreaking and you would cry. The lion is under weight and along with the Camel, Monkeys and idk why they have 65 monkeys! The damn fish in the pound were about dead, the turtles for god sake we’re ready to climb out, the “pound” that the turtles have is unequipped, the algae growing in the LOWES MAKESHIFT POUND, was thicker than a damn piece of mulch. The turtles have green thick necks, and never once would I ever allow my turtles to be treated that way. In the WILD A NORMAL POUND FILTERS IT DAMN SELF, why was there no filter if this black tub of a pound you bought of Lowe’s?
The baby goat they just had is hanging on by a string, breathing funny and tipping over like it has a respiratory infection!
THE DAMN Axolotl is in a damn inch of water, ‼️‼️Axolotl tanks should have at least 10 gallons of water for survival, but some recommend 20–30 gallons or more if possible. Axolotls produce a lot of waste, so smaller tanks can lead to unmanageable levels of ammonia and nitrate. The tank should also provide enough floor space for axolotls, so it's best to make it wider than it is tall. ‼️
If it were possible, I would rate this zoo with zero stars. The owners' behavior is completely absurd and out of touch with reality! If I had the opportunity, I would purchase this zoo and relocate all the animals without hesitation. The enclosures are only 0.5 larger than the minimum legal requirement, which is unacceptable. The zoo was closed down last year, and it should remain closed indefinitely. The animals should be transferred to a legitimate zoo, not kept in this makeshift backyard operation where the owner actually resides. Charging visitors to feed the animals because the owners are incapable of doing so themselves is disgraceful. When we voiced our concerns and suggested improvements, we were met with the response that we sounded like "peta"!
ANIMALS ARE DEPRESSED, STARVING, NO CLEAN WATER! Idc if they are animals or humans or damn dangerous to humans FEED THEM, CARE FOR THEM, AND GIVE THEM FRESH WATER!!! HOW HARD IS IT! HIRE PEOPLE TO WORK THE ZOO AND ACTIVELY BE OUT THERE WITH THE ANIMALS LIKE ANY OTHER FREAKING ZOO IN THE WORD!
I hope to hear from someone and a check handed back to me so I can go to a real zoo and see WELL TAKEN...
Read moreIt has absolutely nothing to do with being "anti-zoo".. CLEARLY many, many, many people are saying this place is subpar.. to put it nicely.
I have absolutely no problem with zoos. The NC Zoological Park is a beautiful place and I have been too many times to count.. This place is not a zoo though. This place is a For-Profit roadside animal attraction.
This place has been open for 70 years and has expanded a whole 5 acres, housing 100+ species.
70 acres.. 70 ACRES right behind Tregembo. 70 acres of untouched, beautiful Coastal Carolina soil.. which is now being rezoned for more housing.
70 years Tregembo has sat there and has had so many opportunities to expand, and grow, a place with so much more room for its animals, a place that would make Wilmington, NC proud, instead of shameful. One of the supporters/family said it herself.. this place gets 10s of thousands of visitors per season.. $12 bucks a pop for adults and that's not enough to expand? Even with a modest 10k visitors not including children and that's $120,000.. now Angela made it seem like there are way more than just a very modest 10k visitors per season.
They had 70 years to improve.. and 70 years to listen to the people, instead and focusing on the few good qualities and throwing random animal facts out. Reading the replies from the "supporters/family".. laughing at real comments about a real concerns that SO MANY people have expressed.. I have visited this prison, and yes, there may be a few reviews of this place from people who have not visited this place, but there are SO MANY people who have.. the bad reviews are not "libel", and "slander". Everyone has their own opinion and I get that, the family/supporters of this establishment this things are just fine the way they are.. but when literally SO MANY people have expressed the same concerns..
That should be a wake up call.
I'm sure that Ms. Tregembo is the best person that she knows how to be, and I'm sure she loves all of her animals, and she has a decent heart.. but 70 years of little to no change, 70 years of hearing the backlash, and the negative comments, and genuine conerns.
Nothing lasts forever and I'm sure that there have been some great memories at this place.. for the people. I understand that this is a family business and has been passed down but sometimes you just have to know when it's time to let...
Read moreI'm really not sure what rating I should give. . Today my husband, 15 month old, and I visited this zoo. We got there at 2 and stayed until they closed at 5. I got online to see what other people had to say about this place and thought I would share also... The staff was very nice to us! We bought three bags of peanuts and a bag of corn to feed the animals. I think this zoo is trying hard to help these rescued
