My family were guests here from Oct. 8th - 10th because we were supposed to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) on the 9th, which is right across from the hotel. My 5-year old still needs her nap so we needed something close for her while visiting PCC. Unfortunately, both of my daughters (16yo & 5yo) developed a high fever the night of the 8th. Naturally, as parents, my wife and I just wanted to take our daughters home. But we waited until 7am to call PCC the next day to try to reschedule our visit because we didn't want to lose all the money that we paid for the luau and the show for our family of 4. PCC understood and were actually very sympathetic so they rescheduled our tickets. I wish I can say the same about this hotel who ONLY cares about their profit. My wife and I walked over to the hotel reception on the morning of the 9th around 7am to tell them that we plan to do early check-out that day because our daughters were both running a high fever. While we understand the early check-out and cancellation policy, there should be another way to accommodate guests that are sick. It's not like people plan to be sick while they're on vacation. After telling the manager our situation, without even trying to listen to us, she told us that we would be charged for early check-out and that we couldn't transfer our credit for another night for next month when we try to visit PCC again. So we would lose our paid reservation and they want to charge us MORE money for needing to leave early and also charge us MORE money for cancelling the last remaining day of our reservation. I guess that's the loophole that Marriott found to rob their guests more money. Unbelievable! So they gave us no choice but to keep our reservation and keep our sick daughters in the room. I guess they would rather keep my family in the hotel and get the other guests sick, too. This hotel only cares about their bottom line. They have no consideration for their guests. On the day of our check-out on the 10th, we couldn't wait to get out of this place! We all got up at 3am that morning so that we could leave after 4am. We drove home that early. We just couldn't stay another minute in the room. If we checked out before 4am on the day of our check-out, they would have also charged us extra so we just killed time in the room until it was time to leave. By the way, my 5-year old tested positive for RSV when we took her to see her pediatrician on the 10th.... So my advise to you is, if you live on the island like we do, just drive home after visiting PCC. If you're a tourist wanting to go to PCC or check out the North Shore area, for the price that you have to pay for this hotel, just stay in Waikiki and just make the drive out there. The drive is not that bad. It's a small island. This is not even a great hotel. What a horrible business practice. We will go to PCC next month but we won't be coming back to this greedy, overpriced, and overrated hotel again.
