So I was particularly looking forward to this particular experience. We showed up at the Harbor early and checked in and waited with much anticipation for the adventure to begin. After a short half hour wait we were called up and asked to board the vessel. We took off our shoes as we boarded the boat and took our seats. There were two captains aboard the boat only one of them was serving as the deck hand on this adventure. The first captain, Kenneth, addressed us all after doing a head count. Kenneth introduced us to himself and the other captain Jules. They both gave us the safety rules of the boat and our journey time. We had to remain seated during while traveling in the harbor area, but once outside of the harbor we were allowed to walk about the boat. It was a 15 minute trip to the three miles off the coast to the shark cage. Once we arrived we were spilt into two groups and we were fitted with our masks and snorkel. I had my GoPro on my headband and the captain, Kenneth, mentioned I might want to attach it to me with a cord because he said he had several people lately to lose their GoPros. When I mentioned all I brought was my head band strap, he grabbed a strap and attached it to my head band strap and then slipped it around my neck so that if it happened to come off in the water I wouldn't lose it. I appreciate his concern and the extra little bit to make sure my experience was superior. I entered the cage first and got excellent footage of the Galapogos Sharks. We were in the cage for about 20 minutes. Once we got out, the next group went. Both captains, Jules and Kenneth were throwing toys attached to rope out over the side and enticing the sharks to play. Both Kenneth and Jules were very friendly and talked to all of us while the second group was in the cage. They explained the sharks and the behaviors of them. Once the second group was back aboard we headed back in. At the conclusion they thanked us and mentioned several spots to eat at that were their personal favorites. Jules also recommended some things to experience while on this side of the island for those were planning on hanging around for the day. Definitely recommend doing this...
Read moreI easily gave this a 5 star. From the moment we left the dock the crew did a fantastic job of preparing us for our adventure. They briefed us on everything we needed to know about sharks, their environment, behavior, what we could expect, and the do's and don't do's for our safety. Safety was their priority. They were knowledgeable and experienced and I was at ease and ready to meet the sharks, (my first time ever), as soon as we arrived at the dive sight. There were about 7-10 sharks, I'm guessing about 5 ft, my size, throughout most of the time we were in the water. We we're in the water for over an hour and as we were getting out I could see in the distance many more returning to the area, I would say more than 40 swimming around. I have to admit even with all we were briefed on sharks I still had some degree of fear and the thrill of being so close and eye to eye was exhilarating. As a bonus while we were in the water we could hear the humpbacks singing. I didn't have a camera so next time I will be sure to bring a GoPro. Our crew was Sophie, Hunter and Maddy. They made the experience both valuable and memorable. I have been and will continue telling my friends about my adventure. This is a great way to learn about sharks and their mis-understood reputation for being dangerous rogue predators. Don't be mistaken they are dangerous predators, but except for those rare occasions, they are not rogue. Humans are not their choice for food and they are very important to the ocean reef eco-cycle. I'm not sure if we were lucky to see so many sharks. It was a beautiful day, we went at 7am. Surprisingly the water felt really warm, I thought it was going to be cold so early in the morning, but I was very comfortable. It was really fun and I look forward to...
Read moreMy husband and myself got married on Kauai the Friday before our shark tour. On his bucket list is to swim with great white sharks someday! Since his new wife isn’t fully on board with the concept I found this opportunity on Oahu to get our toes in the water, and try something different. You know the tour is good when the family behind us was a group of return customers. From before the boat left the harbor the jokes were flying, and the crew made sure everyone knew where they had to be. We took off right on time so don’t be late! On our way out they made sure to inform us of everything we needed to know so we could spend as much time as possible in the cage safely. I contemplated buying a water proof camera or water proof phone case for the occasion, but didn’t want to spend the entire experience looking through my lenses. North Shore Shark Adventures offers a video package shot by the crew so you can enjoy the experience fully. The quality was fantastic, and I had the videos downloaded on my phone before our tour was over. The experience when you climb into the cage is truly out of body. When you first dip your head in the water, and see the Galapagos sharks swimming at you, and around you it’s truly exhilarating. You’re scared but you also can’t look away. It’s so amazing to admire these creatures up close. We also got to see a barracuda up close & personal while we were in the water. On our way back we saw lots of dolphins being playful, and jumping out of the water around us. If you get motion sickness at all I highly recommend getting up early, and doing the earliest tour it’s worth it. This entire experience was worth every penny truly one we will never forget! The crew is the...
