I am going to talk about Middleton Park based on the point of view as a local beach visitor. Meaning this review will be more of the premises of the park than the park itself. When I drove by the park, I saw that there was a fairly good amount of parking spots for visitors. As a local I can tell you that you don't see this very often in beach communities in Brunswick County. Because, they are utilizing the properties to actually build either a house or a business. Parking spaces are starting to be more controlled among different towns to the point that you would end up either paying a parking meter as I heard is the case of Holden Beach or you would have to park relatively far from a desire location you want to visit. I like that the Park is located a block or less behind the headquarter building of the Oak Island Police. For some readers, that wouldn't equal to safer location. But it is undeniable that if something happens, the police will be able to respond very soon. Also, I saw a good size playground area for kids. My impression is that it is one of the biggest playground areas that I have seen in Brunswick County. There were a couple of things I didn't like of the area. I wish there were more trees to provide some shade or simply to give the area a beautiful ornamental touch. Last but not least, the parking spaces had some deficiencies like uneven surface with a few amount of sections were the ground was uneven, therefore there were multiple puddles of water. But all of these things should not interfere with the main reason a person decides to go to the park...
Read moreFun park and splash pad for young kids! The splash pad has plenty to do and a shelter nearby to watch from the shade. The playground has a pirate ship shaped playset that is very popular. Seating around the playground is limited, though there are sunshades nearby if you bring your own chair. Parking is next to the park and across the street. There is also a large field beside the park. The facility isn't for pets but you can bring a leashed pet as long as the don't enter the play areas. There is no restroom facility or access to drinking water (at least that I saw)
Note that all public parking is paid parking and that you cannot park if there is no yellow parking bumper - there are lots of "parking spots " throughout town that don't have a parking bumper, this they technically are parking spots and you can get fined for parking in them... Seems like a scam to me... If the town doesn't want people parking in these spots then remove them or put something else there. Also, the spots with yellow or blue bumpers that are parking spots... Well they are parking spots unless they aren't .... Some have poorly spaced no parking signs......
Read moreIt's a really nice park to take the kiddos to, to let them play and run out some of the energy they be having, lol And the splash pad for kids in the summer time is right there with the park so that's really nice. You get a 2 for 1 deal and don't have to load them up to go to the other because they are side by side. And if you want to take them for a walk on the beach or just make a day of it all and take them to the next you can. Because the beach is also right there. All you gotta do is walk across the road and bam there's the beach. So actually you could say it's a 3 for 1 special, lol I hope this helps someone if they are looking for something to do 1 day with the kiddos to just get them out house and have fun with em. Oh and also 1 more thang if your low on cash but still want to do something with them this would be ideal/the...
