I don't normally leave bad reviews. I was looking for an email instead of leaving a review because I want any criticism to be constructive and not necessarily public when the experience was this bad. I would have said something to the employees before I left but as I was about to a big group of people came in and I didn't want to wait.
I went this morning and was incredibly disappointed. I had the peanut butter acai bowl, and for $11 you think they would at least serve you higher quality peanut butter besides Skippy or whatever they use. The size was also lacking.
I also ordered a normal latte, no flavors, and it was undrinkable. I have to say it was probably the worst I've had in my life, and as a former barista, that is saying something because I always try coffee shops when I travel. The milk wasn't aerated at all. It was simply heated up milk with, bitter, burnt coffee.
There are PLENTY of good roasters out there. If you want to continue as a coffee shop you NEED to get your beans from somewhere that doesn't roast them to death. Also, if none of your employees who make coffee know how to aerate coffee well (and no one to train them in person) there are many YouTube videos that can give simple instructions on how to improve.
Again, I don't normally like being this critical, but for $17+, this was...
Read moreSecond time here. First time (last summer), my plain old drip coffee was lukewarm. So this summer I’d been going to Island Jo but their online ordering was down this morning and I have a bunch of my kids with me so I went to try OKI Coffee House again with an online order. I got there and it was a growing line of customers so I stood to the side assuming they’d call my name when my online order was ready or at least have something I could look at myself (receipts are on the bags). It wasn’t until after they went through the whole line of customers that I went up and asked if they’d gotten my online order. Yes, they did, and she got it from behind the wall. I don’t know how long it had been there but this setup is horrible for ordered placed ahead of time to AVOID the line. Plus, I was missing a knife for my cream cheese and the cream cheese is a measly container you can get from the store. Spare yourself the disappointment and go to Island Jo’s for a more quality food and coffee experience - esp when you’re paying upwards of $13 for a medium latte...
Read moreLet me start by saying the staff is super friendly - they were patient, informative, and kind.
But unfortunately, that doesn't mean much when the product is "alright" at best. The shop absolutely goes for the "Jack of all trades, master of none" vibe.
This shop would benefit from slashing it's INCREDIBLY large menu and focusing on some specialty products, rather than a catch-all for what people may want.
When you take a sip of your drink I can almost guarantee you're going to think "wow, I could've done this at home with my Keurig".
In summary, I got a mango "smoothie". I was told it was a pre-packaged concoction, but that it was good. Upon tasting it, all I tasted was Torani (of which they have a ton of, which tells me they use a little too much) mango syrup flavored ice. If you gave me a mango icee or that "smoothie" I woudn't have been able to tell the difference.
My recommendation is to steer clear. I'd like to see them focus on a few specifics rather than try to cover everything...
