A friend and I went to Simonets to shop during their big sale. She bought a plant stand on sale for $108.00, plus a coupon for 21% off. Simonets said the final cost with tax was $101.77. The total cost immediately caught my attention because there was only a $6.00 difference between the sale price & total even though there was a 21% coupon! The salesperson gave us a receipt with no figures only "paid" written on it. I had to hand write the amounts on our customer copy. I asked her to explain the bill but she did not. In the car we went over the bill. The stand was on sale for 108.00 minus the 21% coupon totaling $85.32. The salesperson had $6.77 for tax which I added to the $85.32 for a total of $92.09! How did the salesperson come up with 101.77? While the difference is close to $10.00 it was her attitude & ignoring our asking about the bill that bothered us the most. We went back into the store and another salesperson asked if he could help us. We went over the bill, my handwritten calculations & overcharge. He asked if we had presented the 21% coupon? He obviously didn't know we had just bought the piece. Nevertheless, yes we gave her the coupon. I asked him if he would re-write the bill. He said I'll just give you a $10.00 bill. He didn't seem to want to know if the bill was wrong, and had a very condescending attitude that we had the audacity to question it's accuracy. My friend also asked if he would re-write the bill to the correct amount. Ignoring our requests he took out a $20.00 bill out of his wallet and we gave him $10.00 back. He said not to worry but that he was giving us a tip, which was .32 cents! Really? He never responded to our wanting a correct receipt. We asked no less than 3 times but obviously they don't like to write receipts for the correct amounts. His attitude was just give us cash close to the amount and that would satisfy the situation. But the tax was figured on the wrong amount of $10.00 more. The next day I was curious as to the correct final cost. Adding Minn. 6.875% sales tax of $5.86 to the sale price of $85.32 totaled $91.40. The check was written for 101.77. We overpaid $10.59 of which the salesperson gave us $10.00 back. There was no supposed "tip" because without re-writing the bill he was going by the wrong amounts. In fact he had shorted us .59 cents. If both salespersons had re-figured the bill, instead of ignoring our numerous requests, the mistake would have been resolved. No problem. I realize this is a small amount, but when you do business with a Co. is it too much to expect a correct bill? If you take the time to sale shop and coupon save, then every little savings is money is your pocket and it adds up. Otherwise why bother? My question is what if every merchant did this sort of thing? How much money would you be out? How many times has this happened to Simonets customers? They were not busy at the time so that was not a reason to ignore our requests. I am very disappointed because my family has done business at Simonet's since the 1960's. While our purchase was small, is that what they base their customer service on? It will be a long day if ever, that we shop at Simonet's again. They had not 1 but 2 salespersons with really bad attitudes. That is...
Read moreUpdated Review: After posting this review, Mike from Simonet's Furniture contacted my wife and looked into the situation and resolved it and extended a credit to our account to go above and beyond in correcting the issue. We appreciated the follow up and the correction of the situation.
Increased rating to 4 stars given the professional corrective steps taken.
My wife and I ordered a custom set of bar stools and a custom storage king bed with a matching chest of drawers last July. The purchasing process was very easy and the staff was professional, however, after waiting for over seven months, the bed we ordered was not made correctly. We contacted the store and followed up with the issue in person and was told Mike was the only one who could remove the issue. It has been impossible to get ahold of him to resolve this issue and we have paid a large amount of money for an order that was made incorrect. It pains me to write a poor review of a Stillwater area business as it is important to me to shop local as much as possible, but the experience has just been bad. Great quality of furniture, but a horribly run business model lacking customer service and follow up after the money is paid. I would recommend other customers find another vendor who sells high end furniture brands that Simonet's carries and avoiding this store due to the poor customer service experience I...
Read moreI do not usually write a review on products or services that I have purchased, but in this instance I feel it is important to share my experience. My husband and I wanted to get a custom-made Amish chest of drawers, so we went to Simonets Furniture to make the purchase. We defined the specifics of the chest of drawers and even provided sample pictures of what we wanted. We were told it would take 4-6 weeks to complete and it actually took 10 weeks with little to no communication from Simonets during that time. Any communication between us and them came from phone calls we made to check on the status. Each time we were told another story as to why we were not going to get the chest of drawers at that time. To say the least, it has been a very frustrating experience!. The chest of drawers was finally delivered on July 27th and we ordered it on May 15th. Even though we clearly defined the specs for it, we did not receive it as it was defined - several of the specs were missed. We did not get from them a list of the specs as we defined to them, so that was our mistake. We will not be giving Simonets any more of...
