When I started my fiber arts hobby, I was really excited by this shop for their selection of yarn fibers and colorways. There is a variety of price points. However, the customer service can use a lot of improvement. I felt followed and watched every in-store visit. There were 2 visits where the owner reassured me that she could order yarn that was not readily in stock. The first time I had to keep following up because I never received any status updates on the order. The next time I came in store, the owner couldn’t remember my order and I selected a different blue in the Ricorumi yarn that was available. I figured she was nervous about the delay because the order was not yet fulfilled. I don’t know if Ricorumi was not able to fulfill the order or if the order was never placed after payment. The second time I placed an order in late November , I again did not receive any communication about the order. When I called, I was told by the owner that Baah Yarns did not ship yet and she will follow up. Since it was the holiday season, I waited longer for shipping. After that, my calls, texts, and emails were unanswered. I even offered to select a different yarn of comparable value if the order was unable to be fulfilled. When I tried going in store to talk to the owner directly, the store was shuttered and emptied. I learned from the restaurant across the street that the store moved from the Harrison space to further down the street. It was 2 months from the order at that point and it seemed the owner had no intention of fulfilling the order anymore. I started processing a chargeback through my bank. It is not February, nearly 3 months since the November order and the store is still not open. If I were to return, I would only purchase from readily available stock. The owner’s system of tracking orders, managing inventory, and communicating with customers is very frustrating. The environment of the store is very tense because the owner inserts herself into your shopping experience while you are browsing. The hours listed on the website/google also are not accurate. The store is frequently closed during...
Read moreI can't speak on the in person experience of this store, which is what the extra star is for. However, I certainly would not recommend ordering online from this store. Normally i dont post reviews like this but I've grown quite frustrated at this point.
I had contacted the store several times via email to try to get assistance on a "yarn of the month" subscription I purchased in early january- trying to get clarification on why I hadn't heard anything about getting a yarn for the month that I had already bought into. After a few weeks and several emails with no response, I finally got an email back saying while they got my money for the yearly membership, I wasn't in their subscription system and that I needed to call them. So I did, and when I asked to clarify what exactly I was getting since I hadn't gotten a yarn of the month yet, they told me I wasn't getting one and that the sub is "basically like a Costco membership". And only if I upgraded would I get a mini skein of yarn. I never saw anything like that on the website, and the fact it's called yarn of the month is a bit misleading. So I got my money back in store credit for the year sub I paid for. Shame on me for trying to support an Illinois small business. Now it's been a full month since ordering ready to ship yarn with that store credit, and 7 days ago it said that the order shipping label was prepared and its been in that status since.
This business posts on instagram and Facebook pretty regularly so it's a bit frustrating to know I've sent several emails with at least a few days in between with no response at all to even acknowledge the request while they are making posts to social media. A bit more focus on helping customers who've already ordered from you...
Read moreI left many unanswered messages, during operating hours, trying to make an appointment before someone actually answered. She explained that I would need an appointment to come shop, but seemed reluctant to give me a time. When I did get an appointment, I arrived at the shop and found the door locked, but saw someone inside. Upon knocking, she finished what she was doing before she came to the door. I am vaccinated, but I had my mask on since a sign requested it. (No problem at all.) Before she would even consider unlocking the door, the employee had to inspect that I was wearing my mask to her satisfaction. She grudgingly let me in. She asked if I was looking for anything in particular and I said that I was just browsing. After a few minutes I saw that nothing was priced. No signage or skein tags. I asked how we know the cost of the yarn and was told to ask her. No thanks. After all that, I just brought my money elsewhere. Total...
