Columbus (Christopher) Park — Attraction in West Chicago Township

I used to absolutely LOVE this park! I do go daily to birdwatch. You'd be amazed at the variety of wildlife living and visiting this park. Over the years, the upkeep has become less and this year the homeless started living in tents along the Austin side of the park. Crime and unruly children have taken over the playgrounds on both the Jackson and Central Street sides of the park. There is a beautiful golf course and newly renovated tennis court that keeps many residents happy! I've just experienced too many people hanging out there drinking and playing loud music, people purposely having their dogs chase the geese and ducks along with trash everywhere including the lagoon. There have been numerous shootings on the Central side and one this July 4th on the Central side. This park is beautiful, but I do feel the city of Chicago has not been taking care of the property as well...

Don’t go to this park. Horrible area this is not a safe park specially for little kids, as soon as I get there found out many homeless tents around the park by the street and a ghetto woman encountered me at the red light yelling at me because she couldn’t pass me when she was driving right behind me on a one line way she was so disrespectful didn’t care, I’ll never take my baby back to this area for our safety. Another current review says they sell and do drugs on this park, who let their kids run and play around here if they could find used needles or things like that that can easily harm them? This place is dangerous and a waste of land it let people take advantage of the lack of security and services here. Don’t let those pictures fool you the park looks better on the photos than what...

This park offers everything a person could want in a neighborhood park. Golf, swimming, basketball, soccer, grilling, baseball, a great track to run, tennis and the list does not stop. The only issue is that it lies on the end of Oak Park which is upscale and on the most western portion of the Austin neighborhood. If you dont have a problem with blacks then I dont see why a person would not come out to enjoy such diverse great facilities. A lot of whites are using the park more and more each day.. You'd be crazy not to enjoy these FREE activities. Just be cautious it is the BIG CITY...
