I want to personally thank Juliana Uruburu, one of the retail buyers, who made my Thanksgiving week so wonderful this year. I had done a big lunch shopping at the deli, buying all my favorite salads and hot items. I had no food in my fridge and was very tired and hungry! I packed everything up and when I got home, realized I did not have my bag. Panic-stricken, I drove back to Market Hall and luckily bumped into Juliana. I was desperate to find my bag of goodies and was very frustrated when they weren't where I thought I had left them. Juliana immediately swept in and took control. She went to every department in Market Hall - produce, butcher, fish - to see if my missing bag would surface. Sadly, she returned saying she had not found it. Seeing my disappointment, she then escorted me back to the deli, where she assisted me in replacing the items I had lost, at a great discount. Juliana went above and beyond, jumping in to assist when needed. And the way she spoke to every guest, every employee, showed me that this is how she always operates - checking in, encouraging, finding ways to help. I am very thankful for Juliana's assistance and know that Market Hall is lucky to have someone like her!
On another note, I want to commend Market Hall for handling the Thanksgiving crowd so well during the pandemic. I heard that they had purchased parking spots at BART to accommodate patrons since they would be closing off the street for people waiting to pick up items. For people waiting in line, everything was so well organized, and well structured. And again, the staff were very accommodating and cheery - visiting with customers in line, and keeping things upbeat. In addition, the excellent customer service and professionalism at the deli never wavered, despite the stress level of customers being extra high this year! Thank you Market Hall for all you do and have done this holiday. You have...
Read moreThe food is wonderful, here. The environment is beautiful. I’ve been a local for over 10 years. My mother owned a home in the Montclair hills and I’ve lived in Berkeley and Oakland for a very long time. I’ve always been coming here, but most recently, since I moved back out here and started coming to the Market Hall, the security guards are profiling me, and it’s a horrible feeling because I’m not doing anything wrong! Amir, the manager of operations is a horrible person. I’ve already discussed the issue with him, but he’s made it much worse, in my opinion and did not help. To constantly profile a young woman, based on what? That’s discrimination. I come in, twice and week and buy food. I spend, around $200-400 a week, at the market hall. I bring business and I’m always tipping the employees, buying flowers, coffee, in that area, but I get bad treatment because of how I may dress, or perhaps, it’s the car I drive, but I know I dress just fine & drive a nice car, so perhaps, that’s what it is, but you guys can get a lawsuit for this. That may be the next step I...
Read moreThis is a collection of speciality food retailers. Coffee, Cheese, Wine, Seafood, Artisanal Butcher, Produce Shop, and a few others. The Seafood and Butcher share a comfortable space, the produce shop has it's own crowded space. The rest share one great space, but it's very crowded.
All the stuff here is considered "upscale" and hence significantly more expensive than similar products purchased elsewhere.
A few years back, the correct description would be "Yuppie grocery Nirvana".
I think the place survives despite the high prices due to it's proximity to the Rockridge BART station - right across the street! So for many people, the ability to merge shopping and commuting offsets the high prices.
The only reason I go is the Meat shop. When I want a large selection of high quality meats coming from farms that respect animals - and I'm putting on any kind of special meal - this is where I...
