The nicest park I have been to in quite some time. This park looks brand new and is well maintenances. There are several large charcoal grill areas and a nice pavilion with plenty of picnic tables under it for hosting an event. The playground is sprawling and has lots of non-traditional things for kids to play on. It honestly had a "ninja-warrior" vibe to it which every kid seemed to love. There are rock walls, a bunch of slides, a wiggling balance beam thing I have never seen before, as well as a whole planned out exercise course. To add to the intrigue of this place, it appears all of the ground material is composed of recycled rubber scraps, not like ground up tire rubber that you would find on a sports field, but actual chips resembling natural wood chips. It was quite soft and I imagine is lasts longer than natural wood chips and is probably one of the better ways of reusing that product. I found this park via Google maps while vacationing and I have to say, I hope I see a park like this where I live in the near future. The restrooms were also the cleanest I think I have ever found a public restroom, so they have set the bar pretty high. Included a close up picture of the rubber chips for reference, it was pretty...
Read moreThis is an excellent place to bring a kid. I visit a lot of playgrounds, and there’s a couple things I generally look for. Most playgrounds will have a jungle gym, many slides, climbing walls, etc and John West Park definitely has those. But not every park has swings (my 2 y/o is a devotee) and, most crucially, so many playground lack adequate shade. John West Park is built among a group of mature trees, so very nearly the entire play area is shaded. This is an absolute godsend on hot summer days.
Otherwise, the playground is in great shape and has so many different options. There were some climbing wall types and other equipment that I haven’t seen anywhere else. There’s also a small play storefront area with door frames and windows for make believe play.
Beyond that, this is a great park. There are picnic tables, and benches that double as swings. There are trash and recycling receptacles spaced around. There’s even a small exercise circuit area. Parking was convenient, and there were ample spots, at least when we visited.
Basically, if you’re in the area and looking for a playground to visit,...
Read moreThe park is a great place for kids, lots of age play ground equipment and very clean. The town personnel work hard to keep it nice. We were there for their annual Cops and Goblins event and it was fantastic. What a great time for the kids to trick or treat in a safe environment and meet the local law enforcement officers and fire...
