I visited inside the tent that is set up outside for performances. It was huge and looked sturdy. Two bars were set up to serve 🍷🍻 drinks and snacks. A gift shop was inside. Parking 🅿️ lot was set up for vehicles going south ⬇️ or north ⬆️. I attended a performance of "Young Frankenstein" with Sally "Gloria Stivic" Struthures. I would grade it an A. The stage was huge with a very loud 🔊 sound system. They have a good lighting system. Bring your facemask, seat cushion and a debit/credit 💳 card for the bars. No cash allowed for payment. Bring a blanket in the fall. It can get chilly. Update: September 2024: The theater 🎭 has open for quite awhile. I attended a performance of "Little Shop of Horrors". The traffic was well organized though I was told to park in the wrong area. The crowd was well managed. I found my seat 🪑 quickly. The show was specifically produced for the Playhouse. It was well choreographed and the actors did a great job with their performances! I forgot how loud an audience could be! It seems more like they were attending a rock concert than a play. There were times where they drowned out the performers. A few people were plugging their ears. I...
Read moreI was going on vaca and planned in advance to go see Joseph. I bought the most expensive ticket because the person I spoke to said these were great seats. I've been to at least 40 plays. Love them. This is the most I have ever paid. I was on the side but isle seat. Could see perfectly except the speaker was on the wall to the right of my head. The music and singing was so loud in this very small theatre that I couldn't understand the words. Sounded like mumble jumble. To top that off the woman in front of me had a gallon of perfume on which made me sick. I got a headache, tasted it on my tongue and my eyes were burning. They should tell people when they buy tickets no smoking within 30 ft of the building and no perfume or cologne. Be curtious to other people. I was going to leave at intermission but my husband saw two empty seats further back and asked if we could switch. We did. What a difference. I could hear the words they were singing and the smell was gone,. I am upset because for an hour and a half show., I only got to enjoy a half hour of it. I feel I threw away my money and...

Their answering system says they're open from 9am daily. So I called at 9:00, 9:01, 9:02, 9:05, 9:10 and 9:20. "Daily" apparently means something other than every day.
We also weren't able to get tickets online. The website will show that there are tickets available, and in our case, there were plenty of levels still available (preferred, economy, etc.), leading us to think there was plenty of seating left. But there weren't 3 seats together. You can't tell if there are seats together unless you actually click "purchase."
If there aren't seats together, the website tells you to call the box office, which is also supposed to be open right up until showtime. And the box office doesn't answer.
I was left with two disappointed kids. This would have been our first trip to the Playhouse, but now it will be our last. Not being available when you say you will be is terrible customer service.
Oh, and did they answer at 9:30 or 9:40? For a 10am show? Nope. Who runs a business that way? I'm sure any of the theatre offerings in Portsmouth would be more responsive, so we'll just do that...
