SUMMARY: Beautiful property, great amenities, friendly staff, good location
This place is simply magical. My husband and I are from NYC and were looking to book a “nearcation” after 3 years of traveling abroad around this time. We have pretty hectic jobs, so we were trying to design a reading/writing retreat. We wanted someplace spacious, with a lot to do on-site, strong wi-fi, and plenty of cozy nooks and seating areas to curl up with our laptops or a good book. We got all that and more. Even though the resort was under construction since it’s the off-season, there were so many amenities to take advantage of that it only made us more excited to return. The Roman Spa is like nothing I’ve ever experienced, and I liked that it was in our building (West Meadow). We also loved the theater, where two other couples joined us for a movie. The theater was spacious and the stadium seats were more comfortable than a normal theater. We also spent quite some time reading and writing in the West Meadow drawing room (the library was our first choice, but it was a little chilly) while playing Christmas music from our laptops.
The Main Building has the heated indoor pool - I’d say the water was more lukewarm, but comfortable. Everything was decorated for Christmas, and it snowed while we were here, so it made for a really cool vibe when you’re relaxing by the pool with Christmas decorations everywhere and watching snow fall from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The pub was easily one of our favorite places. On Saturday and Sunday night we cozied on the couches by the fire and played board games. Every morning, though, we were treated to breakfast by the lovely Diane. She was the best part of our trip. She spoiled us rotten with good food, good service, and great conversation. Since there were so few guests, she personally set every table, and made raisin French Toast bread during the week to make up for the fact that the full weekend breakfast wasn’t being served (we still had a decent amount of choices: hard boiled eggs instead of the usual scrambled eggs, for instance). The blueberry muffins were so good, we smuggled a few for the ride home. Diane was an excellent host, advising us on her favorite places to go (“you must see the Maine Coast botanical gardens!”) and even pointing us in the direction of her favorite mechanic when we told her that our car’s check engine light came on. I made it a point to get a picture with Diane before we left! Diane mentioned that they were just testing out breakfast in the winter, so I do hope they keep it.
The front desk staff was excellent on all shifts. We didn’t have a lot of occasions to bug them, but when we did, they were extremely helpful and accommodating - from turning up the Christmas music in the pool room to letting my husband put the football game on one of the TVs in the common area.
Very few complaints, but I will say that the bathrooms are a little small, and there are no full-length mirrors in the room, so it was hard to get dressed, especially for someone with a wardrobe as big as mine lol The biggest bummer was that they started deep cleaning the fitness center a day or so into our stay. We love how huge it was, how it had all of the machines that we needed (we’re gym rats and rarely find adequate fitness centers in our travels).
We’re excited to see the renovations. Meadomere, we will...
Read moreMy husband made a reservation for our wedding anniversary, taking advantage of a “flash sale” & booked a King Fireplace Suite. He called the day before inquiring if we could check in early & was told yes, we could check in at 2pm. As a surprise for me, my husband also ordered & paid for a “getaway package” that included champagne, chocolates, & flowers. He was promised they would be in the suite when we arrived. We showed up to check in at 2pm & was told that the room was not ready. Although he had confirmed this over the phone in advance, we decided to go explore Ogunquit & returned for 4pm. We were able to check in & when we entered the suite we both saw that the room looked absolutely nothing like the photos that were online! (I will say that our stay was in April & I looked online today & saw that the photos of the rooms have all been updated to look like they actually look like now….so it’s just a shame that they had posted pictures of rooms that looked very modern & well-kept because in reality ours looked nothing like it should have.) Also, the package my husband paid for was not in our suite.
We went back down to the front desk, waited in line again to ask if we had been given the correct reserved suite because it did not look like the photos online…it was just a bedroom & bathroom, with a desk & one chair in the room, and the smallest corner window. My husband also asked about the flowers etc. He was told they would be in our room tomorrow morning after we left for breakfast & they said the room we were given was the room we booked. Odd. But then again like I said, the photos online looked completely different from in reality.
The next day, after going out for breakfast & shopping in town, we came back to no flowers etc in the room. My husband called the front desk again to ask where they were & they told us we would get the champagne, flowers, & chocolate this afternoon.
By 4pm (the day after we checked in at this point….) we still did not have the package delivered & so my husband went down to the front desk to ask & was told they were “putting it together at that moment.” About 40 minutes later, the front desk girl & a male employee brought up the flowers, champagne, & chocolates….& to my surprise & extreme displeasure….the front desk manager (female) was wearing one of my flowers in her hair!!!!
So inappropriate, so rude, so inconsiderate! Not only was the package not given to us upon check in, but she had the audacity to wear one of the flowers from my bouquet in her hair.
I’m happy to see the pictures on your website have been updated to 2025 & what the rooms look like now, however, based on our experience with booking & interactions with the front desk at check in along with having to wait (& constantly inquire about too!!) for the flowers, champagne, & chocolates….& seeing the front desk manager wearing my flowers, we will definitely NOT be returning. There are plenty of other beautiful places in Ogunquit to stay at & they will be getting our business...
Read moreI read a lot of reviews before booking so I went in with somewhat lower expectations. That being said, I was for the most part, pleasantly surprised.|Pros:|Location. I’m placing this under pros and cons. This is likely on me but I thought we would be much closer to the beach. It was a bit of a haul with 2 kids in tow down a road with no sidewalks. In the offseason when you don’t spend a lot of time at the beach or need to carry a lot of stuff, I can see the appeal. It is also very close to restaurants and the town itself.|Amenities:|This place really does have a resort type feel. Movie theater was awesome! Loved the pool and hot tubs. The pub was very nice. And the games both indoor and outdoor were a hit!|Room:|The room was actually better than I expected based on the reviews I read. We were in the building attached to the pub overlooking the pool. ||Cons:|I read a review or two that said they provided beach chairs. Not believing everything I read online I called to confirm. The man that I spoke with confirmed that they have beach chairs that we can borrow but are subject to availability. He said he would put a note on our reservation. Great! I asked the girl at the desk after we arrived and she had no idea what I was talking about. So just be aware that there are no chairs to borrow.|Location: as stated above, it’s a bit of a walk to get to the beach down a road with no sidewalks. Just something to be aware of if you are planning a few days at the beach. |Room:|The room was ok. Better than I thought it would be but could be so much better. The portable AC sounded like an airplane every time it turned on. The room stayed cool but loud. Being right next to the pool made it a bit awkward to have our curtains open as there were always people sitting directly in front of our balcony. |Service:|I knew from reading reviews that housekeeping is not always on top of things and will only clean if you request it. So when they sent me a text before arrival asking if I wanted to add anything to my stay I immediately requested complimentary housekeeping. I didn’t need my room to be cleaned everyday but at least once would have been nice. I put the magnet on our door the 2nd day we were there and after 3 days still nothing. I asked for towels at the front desk explaining that our room had not been cleaned. They gave us towels but still no one showed up. Finally the day before we left I asked again if someone could clean our room (we stayed 4 nights) and they did send someone up. |Towels:|Good luck getting pool towels. They are rarely there and needed to be requested at the front desk just about every time.||None of these things were a huge deal but this place could be so much better with a little bit of attention. It’s very obvious that they are understaffed and the place really needs a...
