Last Friday, my wife and I embarked on a journey through the haunted corridors of history at the Kellogg House in Santa Ana, courtesy of the Haunted OC tour. If you're a fan of ghost tours, this one is a must-see.
We didn't encounter any phantoms, apparitions, or bumps in the night. However, what we did experience was an evening rich in history, laughs and a touch of the Victorian macabre, thanks to our outstanding guide, Darcy Staniforth Anderson.
Darcy, a maestro of humor and historical intrigue, weaved a captivating narrative that brought the house and its former (and perhaps current ghostly) inhabitants to life. Her storytelling was vivid.
The Kellogg House itself, a magnificent Neoclassical Victorian gem, is steeped in history and mystery. Imagine wandering through rooms where time seems to have stood still, surrounded by whispers of the past. One of the highlights for us was the three-story spiral staircase built around a 250 year old ship's mast– an architectural centerpiece that would make the perfect foundation for any scary novel.
So, if you're itching for a ghost tour that's less about cheap thrills and more about rich, historical storytelling, book your spot on the Haunted OC tour of the Kellogg House. You may not make contact with the house's spectral hosts, but you'll definitely be haunted by the memories of a night...
Read moreWe enjoyed a spooktacular haunted ghost tour around the Old Town Orange area with Valerie from Haunted OC tours!
It's really more than about ghosts and paranormal experiences. Though, Valerie certainly has done her research by sharing sightings based on interviewing the locals and from her own experiences.
We learned a lot about the history of the area and the old buildings that make up the neighborhood. It was surprising to learn there were so many mortuaries in the several blocks around the circle!
Along with sharing interesting history and paranormal activity at each place where she stopped, from her iPad she also shared old pictures of what the buildings, shops and people looked like in the old days. Those black and white photos did enhance the spooky creepiness of the stories she shared.
There were about 25 of us in our group. Valerie maneuvered us so we didn't get lost or separated, and she made sure we didn't get in the way of non-tour group pedestrians. Her audio was loud enough for everyone to hear. She dressed the part of ghost tour leader, lacy black cape and all, and she made the walk fun with her added theatrics.

Read moreMy good friend and I attended The Kellogg House Ghost Tour on Friday, October 25, 2024, and had a wonderful time!! At nighttime, the property does set the mood for a good ghost story or two ;-). Our "Ghost Host", Darcy S. did an excellent job mixing both Victorian history, "fun" morbid facts, and tales of spooky specters that reside within the walls of the home! I am more a skeptic when it comes to the paranormal, but who doesn't love a good ghost story, right?
On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, I attended another Ghost Walk (Tour) through Haunted Orange County, but this time it was with my co-workers (we were a large party of 15), and it was for Old Towne Orange! Another excellent tour and Valerie B. was a delight!! Everyone in our group enjoyed her presentation of both the history of Old Towne Orange (or The Orange Circle) and the tales of its ethereal residents ;-)!
These types of tours provide a glimpse into the rich history of Orange County and entertains you will a spooky tale here and there. I would highly recommend these (Ghost) Tours and others offered by Haunted Orange...
