My life would mean nothing without Black Magic Pizza giving me the fuel I need for success šŖš¼
Food: Everything that I've tried on the menu is phenomenal! My girlfriend & I typically only go on Wednesday's for half-priced wings, a side of garlic knots, and an order of poutine to bring to work the next day. My girlfriend will tell you that these are the BEST buffalo wings that she has ever had, and my garlic parmesan are so beyond consistent that I never have to worry about being disappointed. Garlic knots are killer, although if you don't have another to share with, I suggest you opt for the "leftovers tomorrow" route, something I struggle with. Four to six garlic knots and a full order of garlic parm wings tends to leave the tummy a bit upset, of course. The poutine is to die for as well, and the portion is massive. Speaking of portions, the wings are always more than enough to fill you up, the garlic knots are pretty large and come with six I think? The mozzarella sticks usually leave us beyond full, and the pizza itself is also perfect. I would say the pies are a little larger than a normal personal pizza which is perfect. We have only had the pizza two times, but loved every slice. As two young adults we try to save our money the best we can, so Wing Wednesday tends to take precedent over the pizza. Overall, I've never had a bad item on the menu.
Service: Cool, nice people. Being a pick-up window, there isn't too much opportunity for conversation, but everyone we've talked to was super chill šš¼
Atmosphere: Again, as a pick-up window there isn't much immediate seating available so we used to just eat in our car. Now we typically go sit outside at the Milkhouse right next door. You could even grab a drink there (Foxtail Coffee is always a hit) or even some ice cream for dessert. I already liked the pick-up window for some reason (maybe I'm more antisocial than I always thought) but having the Milkhouse right next door is perfect for everyone involved. All the businesses in the district get more business by working together here, and it's great to see it work out so well.
If you can't already tell, I couldn't recommend Black Magic enough and we don't intend on stopping our weekly visits...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came to Black Magic the other night for the first time with a group of friends plus my boyfriend, who has raved about their pizzas since we've met. He's a long-time devotee and I can now say that I understand why. I wouldn't call myself a food snob or picky by any means, but I am a little particular about pizza. The pizza at BM maintains a crispy bottom yet is still soft, airy and delightful to eat, which definitely speaks to the shop's goal of providing a New-Neapolitan pizza. The menu is small-ish (which to me means that there's a greater chance that everything on there is specially curated and thoughtfully made), the mood is casual and very down-home Milk District, and on Wednesdays there's a great deal for 6 chicken wings for $6.
Altogether, my friends and I ordered: -2 Jack the Trippers -1 Coheed and Calabria -1 Dr. Pepperoni -1 order of Garlic Parm wings -1 order of Barbecue wings
We all traded a couple slices so we could get a feel for what everyone else orderedānone of the slices disappointed, though the Coheed and Calabria and Dr. Pepperoni were slightly greasy for my taste. I got over that pretty quickly and devoured the rest of the pie. For pricing: We all agreed that for the size of the pie (basically a standard medium pizza), the prices were high, but in line with most places' pricing these days; and considering that the ingredients were fresh, tasty, and I could see them preparing the cooked toppings from the order window, I think the pricing is fair. The specialty pizzas are, in my opinion, pretty overpriced, though. I wish there were an option to try just one slice of the weekly specialty pies, because they sound enticing and fun to sample, but I'm not sure if I could or would want to stomach an entire pie with cream cheese and chili sauce Ć la the crab rangoon pizza. Maybe I'm just not hardcore enough.
Aside from the pizza, the staff were really cool and kind. Loved the vibe of everyone working the night that we went, and you can tell they're invested in the shop's objective to furnish great pies and create a space that's...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn one hand, Black Magic Pizza is some of the best pizza in Orlando. All pies are made-to-order, the crust and ingredients are fresh, they have inventive flavors and offerings, and I love their merch - particularly the stickers. I cannot think of a single greater place to grab pizza, beer, and wings. It is located inside of Whiskey Lou's which is a great dive for cheap, stiff drinks. Personally, I love the atmosphere, but it might not be for everyone.
On the other hand, there are a couple things keeping Black Magic from being my #1 pizza spot. I have an important, personal quip which I always forget about until after I have eaten their food. It is very greasy and I'm yet to go there and not get sick in some capacity. There are very few foods that upset my stomach or make me feel ill, but Black Magic's food just does not sit right with me. Their hot honey pizza, I think, is a particular offender: lots of grease mixed with honey and marinara. My girlfriend, however, has never gotten an upset stomach after eating, so this could just be a me problem.
The second trouble comes with the prices. I'm contented to pay $20 for a medium-sized pie if it's of superb quality - which is true for Black Magic; however, their specialty pizzas are way, way over-priced. They have inventive and exciting weekly offerings such as the Crab Rangoon pizza, but I'm unwilling to spend upwards of $30 on something that might be bad. I think they should offer specialty pizza by-the-slice.
Even though it upsets my stomach consistently, Black Magic Pizza is one of the best pizzarias in Orlando and I cannot think of a better spot to grab a delicious pizza with...
