Raptis Rare Books — Attraction in Palm Beach

Visited here for the first time yesterday. I’ve always heard such great things about their collection of rare autographed books, and walking in was magical. You get the feeling like you’re in an exclusive library (yes I felt like Belle walking into the Beast’s private library). We were greeted by the owner and immediately offered water, a glass of wine, or scotch on the rocks. I opted for rose since it was still morning. We swirled our drinks and talked about the books, they let my daughter run about in awe of all the books (don’t worry her 1yr old self didn’t get into the goods). You get the feeling that the owner really cares about the value of the books, but more so, what the books mean to the individuals who have owned them or will eventually own them. He seemed to really want to help people connect with what matters to them. I had my eye on a first edition Shel Silverstein, Where the sidewalk ends, one of my childhood favorites. But he has rare finds from JD Salinger, copies of the Koran, the Bible, classics like Huckleberry Finn, a few of Charles Dickens’ work, and so much more. I understand now why people say this store is a “must see” on Worth Ave. It’s like it’s own museum of books where you can take a moment, have a sip of wine, and share memories with your daughter about your favorite reads, and see the wonder it brings to her eyes. I must take a moment and comment about this “treasure” of a book store. I must admit I know less than nothing about rare books, especially First Addition” rare books. But my clients know a lot. If you want to buy the “perfect” special book for someone but don’t know where to start work with Raptis Books. From Ashley the friendly & helpful receptionist to Susan the “book specialist” the expertise is top shelf. When the book arrives on your doorstep to be presented as a gift, it will be beautifully wrapped in gold paper with a bow and inside will include all the important origin of authenticity documents. I read a comment below that the owner of the book store is a snob. Who cares? I certainly don’t. With a knowledgeable staff that can guide you I think the owner has done everything right & I’m certain he has worked very hard in his life to create such a “gem”. I will shop there again & again.
