In the early 1960's I ice skated at Iceland . I used speed skates to skate on. If my memory serves me right; I started skating from the 6th grade until the 9th grade. It was a hangout for many teens in those days. Lots of girls. Like most people in my age range, I outgrew ice skating and hanging out at the rink by the 9th or 10th grade. Lots of good memories for me. I bought my first speed skates at the store across the street. I think it was across the street. It was close by, that I know. We would drop our skates off tobe sharpened or too have our skates tweaked by the owner. He sold lightweight speed skates with the boot made out of Kangaroo hide. He would also offset your skate blades if you wanted him to. Skated every Friday night. And Saturday nights as often as I could. I'd get in a Wednesday or Thursday night off and on. Depened on how much homework I had to do. Iceland was a huge part of my life from the age of 11 to 16. Enjoyed the music and skating with the girls when it was couples only. The staff were nice and friendly over the years. Thank you for the use of your facility. I'm 70 years old now. Can't believe how fast the time has gone by. My name is Duke and I went to Paramount junior high and Paramount High school. My family moved after my Sophomore year. Not the best of times after our family moved. Well, that's more than enough information, so I will...
Read moreThis place is 100% The Original!!! You want to visit this wonderful ice rink! It is the birthplace of the ZAMBONI!!! This place set the standard and it’s beautifully well maintained! The staff are friendly and professional! They are very helpful which is great especially for first time skaters.
We had a family birthday party and it was a perfect location! The room was clean and ready for use as soon as it was time for our party. We had people in our group that had some experience and others that had never set foot in a skate. We opted to have a basic lesson at the start of our session and it was well worth it!
Aveneth was our instructor and she was fabulous with a large group! She was attentive to different levels and was able to assist everyone who needed the help. Her support and encouragement went a long way! The majority of our group can’t wait to skate again and already are thinking about our next outing!
Thank you so much for hosting us, Iceland!
Pro Tip: If you are going skating or having an event… it’s cold. Brink a hat and gloves if cold weather affects you. Yup, it’s an ice rink! But dress warm and in layers! If you skate, you might warm up so just...
Read moreI skate here twice a week even though I live 35 miles away. I love the large rink (Olympic size) and relatively small crowds at the public sessions most convenient to me. Friendly staff and regular skaters as well.
@ Joshua: 2 stars because you THOUGHT they were closed!? Really!! You said you came there at 7:00 and it didn't seem to be open. Was that 7:00am or pm? Although most rinks generally open in the early morning hours for freestyle practice, Paramount doesn't seem to (generally opening around 10:00/10:15 on weekdays). 7:00 pm on Tuesdays is the start of the weekly Family Night public session where they play live organ music and which, I understand, is generally very well attended. I looked back on their calendar and found no Family Night sessions cancelled over the last several weeks, so I can't explain your experience unless you went by at 7:00am. BTW, it is generally hard to see the interior lights standing outside of the entrance. As I never attend in the evenings, I don't know what lights may be on or off externally. In any case, no, they...
