We had a wonderful time! This was the first time at this complex. When we lived closer to Huntsville we would go watch the Huntsville Havoc play a good bit and always had a great time. Now that we live closer to B'Ham, we wanted to go watch the Bulls play and support the the team. Parking was crazy, and it was raining heavily; many people were in line trying to park. They had attendants to direct you exactly where to go. As we got closer they had an electronic signature that said "PARKING $5.00 CASH ONLY." Well, we didn't have any cash and there was no way out of the line at this point, but when we got to the person that took money, we told her that, and she said "don't worry, just go on through," and we we're then directed where to park. How nice was she! We tried to pay with the card when we bought tickets, but they wouldn't accept it. Anyway, the arena is very nice with great seating that allows you to see the full rink, regardless of where you sit. It was just like Having games where they try to do fun things for the kids. The refreshments were VERY good (try the nachos). Over all, it was a great time! Really enjoyed the game! Go to a...
Read moreSoo, found out, just by chance (?) that the Birmingham Bulls Hockey team has returned and are now playing at the Pelham Civic Complex in their ice rink. This past weekend, for my birthday, my husband and daughter took me to a game. I absolutely LOVE hockey, even though I'm from the south and we normally don't cheer hockey players like we do the Crimson Tide or Auburn Tigers. My first date with my husband was a Birmingham Bulls game over 22 years ago and I fell in love with the sport! I was surprised to find out that two of my favorite players from THAT team from over 22 years ago are now the Head Coach and Asst. Head Coach of the Bulls!! Sadly, we lost Saturday night but it definitely signaled that I need to frequent the ice more often! The Civic Complex was clean and the people there were really nice (the numbering of the seats is different and I had to ask where our seats were; the ushers were kind enough to not just TELL me but SHOW me where my seat was! Except for the loss, I had a good time and it was nice seeing the Bulls...
Read moreThe adult hockey programs could not be run more poorly. From my understanding Josh Harris is the director that runs hockey operations due to having professional hockey experience, but it shows he doesn’t know how to run programs. The adult “beer league” has different levels by skill, but the skill level is not monitored due to Josh never being present so players play across multiple levels. The tournaments are all skill levels, but Josh plans them 2 weeks in advance and then doesn’t have anyone ensuring they’re run smooth. Example, the Christmas tournament was “honor code” for keeping score and goalies were out of the loop on who was playing and there were not enough goalies to play the championship game. For $300 a team you’d think someone would be there to run it, but no Josh was playing instead of making sure it ran smooth. Overall the adult hockey continues to disappoint and meet the low standards expected even with the...
