Back in the Birmingham area for a few days, my wife and I chose this location based on good reviews here and on the Choice Hotels website. Although it could use a little TLC here and there, this hotel is clean and quiet...just what we look for. ||We checked in on a Wednesday afternoon for 4 nights, and were assisted by a very friendly and sweet team member. We always request a room on the uppermost floor, if available, to avoid overhead noise, but in this case our room was on the 2nd of 3 floors and our first night was fine.||Breakfast was typical Choice fare, served in a clean and bright area behind the lobby, and food was kept refilled. We headed out for our activities in the city and returned late afternoon to find our room keycard didn't unlock our room. My wife tried the door handle, and opened the door without using the keycard...our room was not locked, and the door lock was not working. We reported the situation in person to another friendly team member at the front desk, and she relocated us to a room on the 3rd floor. We found the same issue with the door lock on that room, so we were relocated again to another room on the 3rd floor. This door lock had the same issue, but we opted to stay with that room, knowing the deadbolt and latch would suffice for Thursday night. We were assured that the issue would be fixed the next day...24-hr. maintenance was no longer available. ||Before heading into the city on Friday morning we loaded our luggage back into the car, not wanting to leave our things in an unlocked room, but leaving a jacket, snack bag and laundry bags in the closet, and 3 drinks in the refrigerator. When we returned late afternoon the door lock issue was resolved and our keycard opened the door. We loaded our luggage back into the room, which had been fully serviced by housekeeping (we had asked for only towels to be refreshed). I noticed that the luggage rack had been returned to the closet, placed next to our bags of soiled laundry. I opened to refrigerator to find 2 of the 3 drink bottles missing. ||I reported the missing items in person to a team member at the front desk. We had not seen her before and she shrugged it off, saying she could ask housekeeping, assuming they had removed the items. No apology or offer of replacement. With our room having been serviced and the luggage rack returned to the closet where we obviously had left our things, it seems unlikely the housekeeping is responsible for the 2 missing drinks...why not take all three and remive our items from the closet? We don't know how long it took for the lock issue to be fixed on Friday, or who actually removed the drinks. I was very disappointed in the reaction by the team member.||We returned late afternoon on Saturday to find that sweet and friendly team member at the front desk, and when we relayed our story and concerns, she apologized and said there should be security recordings showing who had been in our room. Our time at this hotel was ending, so we dropped it, but still felt uneasy about items have been taken from our room.||Overall, our experience here was positive, and all but one team member took great care of us. I definitely recommend staying here, and would...
Read moreReview of Sleep Inn – Pelham, AL (May–June 2025) ⭐️ Overall Rating: 1/5 ⭐️ Front Desk & Hotel Staff: 4/5 ⭐️ General Manager & Sales Rep: 0/5 I recently went through an extremely painful and life-altering situation that left me and my children homeless starting May 19, 2025—and we are still working to find stable housing. During this time, we stayed at the Sleep Inn in Pelham, AL for over 20 nights. I have receipts, bank statements, and confirmation emails proving every single payment made. First and foremost, I want to thank the front desk staff, especially the supervisor Nikki, and her entire team. They were kind, supportive, and treated my family and me with compassion during a time when we had nowhere else to turn. Their professionalism and empathy meant so much and made a very difficult situation just a bit more bearable. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about General Manager Rena and Sales Representative Larry. When I tried to explain my situation to Rena—including that I was recently divorced and had children with me—she talked over me, told me she didn’t care about what I was going through, and was extremely dismissive. She then threatened to call the police on me for no clear reason, hung up on me, and banned me from staying at any Sleep Inn or Quality Inn locations. I was shocked and confused. When I filed a formal complaint through Choice Hotels, Rena kept closing the case with false claims that I hadn’t paid for my stays—even though I have full documentation proving otherwise. I even ran into someone who worked for Rena in the past, and they confirmed they also had bad experiences with Rena and warned me that “she’s a person to know”—which speaks volumes. When I reached out to Sales Representative Larry to find out what was going on, he asked why Rena would threaten to call the police. I told him I honestly didn’t know. Instead of offering help, he told me to never call him again and hung up the phone. That night, because of the chaos and lack of support, my children and I had no choice but to sleep in our car. This experience has been deeply traumatizing, and I believe I am entitled to compensation for the pain and suffering caused by the actions of Renee and Larry. Their behavior was unprofessional, heartless, and completely lacking in empathy. Again, I want to be clear: the hotel itself is clean, well-maintained, and the staff (excluding management) was outstanding. I give them full credit and 4 stars overall. But Rena and Larry both get 0 stars. They should not be representing a brand like...
Read moreMy husband ,son and I were in Birmingham on business. Ratings, pics and price looked good. Upon arrival we were greeted by Sandra with an inviting smile, bubbly personality. She was very professionally nice, helpful & informative to the area. Offered us a water in which was very nice as she gave one to each of us that was wrapped in clear cellophane with a personal size bag of Famous Amos chocolate cookies in side, (very nice). Check in was nice and smooth, she explained all the ins and outs, times and answered all questions. Foyer, sitting areas, stair case, all inviting, clean, smells and looks very well taken care of as well as the restrooms, hallways, and common area. Ice machine and vending are on each floor and the common area. The room was fantastic! Clean, smelled clean, toiletries and towels nicely placed. OMG the BEDS and PILLOWS! were so comfortable, unlike any other hotel my husband and I have stayed. If it hadn't been cold I would have been in the pool, very clean looks cozy and inviting at night. HOUSE KEEPING IS ON THEIR "A GAME" 100%! As a woman that has done professional house keeping and can spot irregularities in a heart beat, I can tell you I looked and, CLEAN!! The breakfast was fabulous! The girl was very nice and friendly that was attending the food areas keeping everything replenished and clean, pretty smile, she's on her "A game". The breakfast bar consisted of; waffles, toast, muffins, bagels, yogurt, fruit, eggs, patty sausage, biscuits, with country gravy, cereal, milk, coffee tea and juice (which coffee, tea and juices are complimentary to the guests 24/7). I also noticed security cameras inside and outside monitored (very comforting). Walking distance to a few restaurants, from What a burger dead in front, to fast food to Texas Road house, AppleBee's, Golden Corral all with in blocks. My reason for so much info is I went to and go by reviews, and for those that wonder when looking at the price and the pictures with description if that what your going to get?, yes and more! We were there on the weekend and was very well taken care of by Sandy, and the weekend crew that are awesome at keeping everything excellent! So with that being said, if your in the Pelham Al or Birmingham Al areas like we were, its a great hotel in a good location, and very worth the stay. I highly recommend this place to everybody that reads...
