I visited Purple Onion a day ago and I was extremely disappointed in what I received. I ordered the purple onion burger and fries. For $9.20 I really expected more. Their fries to me have always been really good. So for the most part they were, hence the two star review. I ordered at the drive thru and had to wait for the food to be prepped which was fine by me because that could almost guarantee that it was going to be decent. When I got home and looked at what I had I was shocked to see this rock hard supposedly beef patty that wasn’t even edible. The bun was 3x bigger than the patty itself. I’m pretty sure that’s not fresh and it comes in premade. It had an abundance of lettuce soaked in mayonnaise and half an onion. There was this small pickle buried in it. I tried to cut it in half but my knife wouldn’t even cut it. So if my knife couldn’t cut it I know I couldn’t chew it. Needless to say I spent 9.20 on some soggy fries. Eat them while they’re hot because if you wait until they are cold they will be a soggy mess. I live roughly 25 minutes from this restaurant so I didn’t see the need in getting in my car to take this back to them so to the garbage can it went. Maybe this was just an off night for them but if this is what they are serving to customers I will...

I rarely leave reviews, but my experience at the Purple Onion Deli and Grill Restaurant was concerning enough that I felt compelled to speak up. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place to anyone due to the visibly unsanitary conditions and what appeared to be careless mishandling of food.
During my visit, I noticed food being prepared and served without proper hygiene measures. Employees were handling ingredients without gloves and moving between tasks without washing their hands. I also observed unclean surfaces in both the dining area and food prep areas, which raised major red flags.
What should have been a pleasant dining experience quickly turned into one of discomfort and concern. If food safety and cleanliness matter to you—and they should—then I suggest looking elsewhere. I hope the management takes immediate steps to address these health and sanitation issues, as this establishment has potential but is currently falling far short of basic...
Read moreVery disappointed in The Purple Onion in Pelham. Have eaten at the Homewood and Hoover locations several times and enjoyed it. I ordered the gyro plate. My wife ordered the greek salad and a grilled cheese. My gyro came with fries. The pita bread the gyro was made from was really good. The meat was perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, that was about it. The lettuce was cheap shredded iceberg lettuce, some slightly brown. The tomatoes were grainy and not fully ripe. To top it off, instead of the traditional tzaziki sauce, it had something approaching thousand island dressing. At least the fries were well cooked and nicely spiced. My wife's salad was full of brown lettuce, four cores, gritty half ripe tomatoes, and thickly sliced onions. The salad dressing was an Italian vinagrette rather than a greek dressing. Her grilled cheese was nicely cooked, but thin on cheese. I haven't even mention the run down dirty building or the filthy stinking bathroom. Don't think I need to go into detail. We will...
