This is Philadelphia's only slavery museum and perfect place to see artifacts and documentation highlighting so many facets of the Black experience leading from Africa to present day America. Tour drives home the message that 200+ years of legal slave trade, followed by decades of US slave breeding and nearly a century of Jim Crow, created myriad problems that we are clearly still needing to work together as US country and within Black communities to address. There are so many things I was never taught and as time progresses speaking of America's origins becomes more and more taboo. This political correctness is washing away our history. By 'our' I mean American. Slavery tells you more about those who created it than those enslaved. This museum has a great collection of items you won't see anywhere else but the best part of the museum is the guide.
