Mario Lanza Park is a quaint, unassuming dog park that I would never even think about reviewing if I wasn't making a final push for another Yelpie this year. I'm coming for everything they said I couldn't have.
On my walks through Queen Village, I always peruse through this park and just think to myself about how much I love Queen Village. It feels like Disneyland. Gotta be the most underrated part of Philly.
There is a mural in this park done by David Guinn, who has done a number of murals throughout the neighborhood. I love his stuff. I had no idea who he was before seeing these murals sprinkled around Queen Village, but his art is so uniquely him that I have become obsessed.
There is a Yellow Lab in this specific mural that reminds me of my childhood dog, Rocky. Rocky was the MAN. No one will ever understand the bond a young kid has with a childhood dog. They're your rock growing up. When everyone in your family is mad at you because you started crying when you airballed a free throw in your 10U rec league basketball game, Rocky was there to cheer you up. They really teach you how to be loved unconditionally.
I'm lowkey a little scared to die, but one thing that gives me solace is I will get to see Rocky again once I get to the pearly gates.
A got a chill down my spine when I did a quick google search on David Guinn this morning and informed me that this mural features a neighborhood dog, whose name is "Rocky." Damn. God is funny like that sometimes.
I now want David Guinn to design my house when I make a truckload of cash from this Yelpie I get. RIP ROCKY! GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN! I’LL SEE U SOON!
