Cozy and quaint little cafe. Very old and antique shop with exposed brick wall and [did I mention old] hard wood floor that's not even flat, so be careful not to trip haha.
In all seriousness as soon as my friend and I walked in were greeted with cold stares. Probably the most unfriendly staff I've ever dealt with. I got an avocado avocado and "mango" smoothie, which was delicious and not too sweet. No real mangoes were used though, I think it was puree. My friend ordered an ice vanilla chai tea latte. Which just tasted like cinnamon flavored milk with vanilla. This place is cash only which I didn't realize until the guy rudely muttered under his breath "did you not see the sign cash only." Oh I'm sorry I'm too blind to see your small sign that posted all the way at the end of the cash register, on the way behind all the junk (tbh I still did not find the sign but my friend said they DID in fact have one).
I'm surprised by all the positive feedback. Maybe their actual food items are good. I however will be returning. I'm sure there are good if not better cafes in the area where they treat you with courtesy and respect and actually smile at you because you're a...
Read moreThis was until very recently my favorite breakfast sandwich in the city. However the last few times I’ve gone, there’s been a noticeable change in quality.
My latest order might be the last time for me to be honest. The eggs are burnt almost beyond recognition. I’m kind of surprised they even sent this out. This was a take out order, but if I was eating there I would probably send it back.
FYI it’s a Tempeh bacon, egg, and cheese on multigrain toast with avocado.
UPDATE (10/11/24): Want to give a brief update since it seems many people are seeing this review, according to random notifications I’m getting.
The owners reached out to me immediately to make this right. I have now been back to Red Hook many times since. It seems like this was a one time issue. I can happily report that I still support Red Hook and still order this sandwich. It may not be as good as it once was, but it is still really damn good (as long as it’s not burnt to hell).
I’m updating my rating to reflect my recent experiences, but am leaving this review up. When I get a chance I’ll add some images of a...
Read moreThis is the neatest and coziest café I've ever been to hands down, the food is amazing (try the curried chicken salad sandwich on ciabatta...) and the service was really quick, knowledgeable, and friendly! I found good parking right out front with no issues, and the place filled with guests. Looking at the menu, I noticed a ton of different vegan items and substitutes, all the way down to the cream cheese (tofutti), and not to mention the ice cream... I'm about to wipe out their stock on push-pops, they're so good... The owners Sam and Lacey were present, I just had a quick chitchat with them as I ordered and they made me feel at home instantly. Also shout out to James for making my Vanilla Cardamom latte spot on! I'll be putting the Red Hook on my repeat list from now on, it's a great spot to be a regular. This place really is a staple of...
