Went here last night for dinner. This was our second time going as our first time was for brunch. We honestly told ourselves that we would not come back because our brunch experience was so underwhelming.
But, we had a friend in from out of town who wanted to dine here.
Immediately upon sitting, the chairs were extremely uncomfortable. I really just wanted to rush through dinner so that I could get out of there and off of those chairs.
We wound up ordering a little bit of everything: The spinach artichoke dip which came with tortilla chips. These were actually my favorite. We also got the edamame raviolis which were really good. They came with a delicious sauce.
For the main course, we ordered the tacos which were okay. Not my favorite. We also ordered the gnocchi which were absolutely delicious. We got the macaroni and cheese which tasted bland to me. And lastly, we ordered the mushroom sliders which were pretty good.
All in all, it was a good experience other than the chairs - AND when we received the check. There was a fee for "Kitchen Appreciation". I will not return to a restaurant that tacks on additional fees for their staff.
So, needless to say, I will not be returning to this restaurant. You can pay your employees a higher wage rather than leave that task up to the public who dine in your restaurant.
** Editing my review to respond to the restaurant's response. No, my 3 stars was not about only the chairs. If you took the time to read my response, you would have seen that. It was about the bland food, fee for kitchen staff and uncomfy chairs.
You are a restaurant owner. To get offensive about three stars says a lot. That "Kitchen Appreciation" fee shouldn't even be on the check to begin with to even have someone ask to have it removed.
I seriously doubt that my three-star review will deter customers from dining in your restaurant. But, what I do think will deter them is your unprofessional responses to reviews like these. I know when I see responses coming from management or the owner similar to yours, that is a huge-turn off for me.
And I did not want to speak to a manager because 1) I'm not like that. 2) I honestly wanted to get out of there as fast as I could so that I could get out of those chairs. My husband's back is killing him today from sitting in those chairs for over an hour last night.
Also, talk about negativity. That's pretty rich coming from you after that response. And speaking of negativity, honestly, your place had a negative vibe. Thinking back, your employees looked miserable. Our server was nice. The host was nice. But, they just looked unhappy. No one was smiling. Perhaps that is because of your bad attitude?
For almost $25 for a bland entree, you should invest in better/comfortable chairs and pay your kitchen staff better.

Read moreFitz on 4th is an all vegan, hip & modern tapas spot you don’t want to miss! Heard so many great things & finally went! Wow! Beautiful decor, hip vibe & amazing vegan food! It seriously gave me vibes of a place you’d find in LA or NYC! Every detail was perfectly put together from the bar- to the tables- to the bathrooms. Also the bathrooms were super clean! Added bonus!
We made reservations (highly recommended) & was seated right away. I loved the decor right away. Beautiful wallpaper, stunning plants everywhere, funky & fun colors. Such a vibe! Our server was amazing. Explained how to experience the tapas & made recommendations. What we loved most was how perfectly timed everything was! As we would be finishing up a dish, the next came out! It flowed perfectly & was such a wonderful dining date.
The server recommended 4 dishes for 2. We were completely stuffed after our 4 dishes & for tapas- the serving sizes were decent!
What we got:
Pretzels & pub-cheese- Was my fave of everything. Super crispy, buttery pretzels dipped in amazing pub cheese! The portions of this was perfect for 2 to share.
Mushroom sliders- seriously amazing!!! The buns were delicious, the mushrooms were battered & crispy & the veggies/chili sauce completed the flavor! They were mini flavor explosions.
Mac n cheese- Hands down some of the best vegan Mac we’ve had! This came out in a large bowl & again, perfect amount for 2! The pasta was perfect & the cheese sauce was ooey gooey & so much flavor!
Meatball dish- the sauce stood out as the winner from this dish. Super fresh pasta sauce. You can taste the ripe tomatoes.
We LOVED our dinner at Fitz! It lived up to the online hype from the vegan community & I hope sticks around in Philly for a while- it’s a gem! Such a vibe & such good food! Come for an amazing experience full of...
Read moreVery underwhelming experience. The menu is not thorough. We both ordered brussel sprouts because the waitress said it wasn’t the largest to share… to our surprise, a plate of SHAVED Brussel sprouts arrived, not dressed well, the black pepper topped was over powering. We also ordered the Cesar salad. Not wowing. And the brussel sprouts were not hot (temperature wise) But since we already ordered a salad, that would have been the time to mention the Brussel sprouts were shaved… I had to send mine back, my date was a good sport and tried to finish hers. I was anticipating her choosing the crab cakes because she typically will order that at a restaurant, however when asked what they use, we found out it was heart of palm, not artichoke… sooo, she went with the tacos and I chose the nachos… the nachos were presented well, but lacked flavor and texture, toppings were more like sauces… all the toppings were cold and there was nothing wowing about them and the portion was certainly lacking. They should offer the cauliflower mixture that goes in the tacos to be added to the nachos -and do more of a loaded style.
Ooh, and let me add that for some reason, our brussel sprouts and salad came out before the wine!! Which we placed first….
Yes, it was Friday, and yes they are busy. But still. I will say, be advised that a CC is required for reservations and $25 per person will be charged if you have to cancel… we were in town and there was unexpected traffic delays and what should have been a 30mins drive was going to take an hour… while they were accommodating and let me push my reservation back, but that was because I didn’t want to be charged $50 for a no show. But honestly, had I known, I would have taken The $50 hit opposed to the $90 bill for under...
