Stayed here for two nights this weekend (for owner reference on this review, name is under Frazee) with my cousin for the Pittsburgh-Raiders game.
First and foremost, location. Location is always key to any place I've stayed. I personally wasn't a fan of this particular street, right outside of the nicer area's, homeless scattered outside, and doesn't seem overly safe. Parking will cost you, we paid $75 for two days, but, the garage is right across the street and safe and secure, just, can't stand staying somewhere for a price where Parking isn't settled.
On the contrary, once past that, just a few blocks over and you're in a nicer neighborhood and the access to the city is pretty incredible. You really are next to just about anything, and just a short walk will get you to all the major parts of the city. For tourism, purposes, the location was fair. CVS, 711, and a great pizza place right across the street for things you may need to go grab.
The building itself is a little ran down. Elevator is small, hallways are cringe, building in general is definitely a little dated and not super spacious.
For the price, it's hard to complain, regarding the room. Great amenities and really is like your own little apartment. Access to stove, fridge, microwave, filtered water, cups, plates, coffee, soap, TV, fresh towels and blankets. TV doesn't come with cable, so you're forced to use your own stream in information, but, who uses cable anyways, these days? Wifi works well and is easily accessible.
Beds are small and right next to one another, reminds you of college dorm days, but they're OK enough for the purpose. More spacious and free then a simplistic room at a hotel.
Shower, was probably the worst thing regarding the room. It is ridiculously tiny, can barley put soap on, or turn around, at all. I like space in my shower, and I'm not a big guy, so, I think most will find the shower not super accommodating.
Guest were all polite and nice, didn't run into any staff. People outside was diverse, but definitely some sketchy people in the area.
Also, note, we had a suite. Other rooms are essentially beds with combined common area's, which there is absolutely zero chance I would ever do.
Overall: An average place to stay, in an area that most probably would expect to be nicer, but, if the purpose is simply to lay your head and enjoy the city, then it serves its purpose well enough, and provides you with great access to all you'll desire while exploring downtown Pittsburgh. It isn't the nicest place I've stayed, but it's certainly not the worst, either. Recommended for those who aren't the type to spend a ton of time in there rooms and just want to enjoy what Pittsburgh has to offer outside of that. Best fit for groups, and guys, wouldn't recommend single women, or families. If returning, I personally, would...
Read moreI NEVER feel the need to write negative reviews but my experience was such a disaster I feel a moral obligation to warn others to stay far away. Admittedly the price, location, and amenities are definitely a plus that will probably draw you in (as it did for me) - but the customer service wasn’t just abysmal, it’s almost entirely nonexistent. It was impossible to get in contact with management (I was desperately trying to request early check in), despite multiple emails and phone calls many days before. All “responses” are clearly automated. Supposedly, you’re given the instructions to enter the building and your room 48 hrs ahead of check-in - I did not receive such instructions until the morning of my arrival. With the “instructions” you’re also given a link to a page for options to purchase early check-in/late check-out. I went ahead and purchased early check-in, but when I arrived at 1pm I couldn’t even get inside as I wasn’t given the correct code to enter the building. I luckily encountered a single worker cleaning outside who was kind enough to let me in, and I hoped from there I’d be able to enter the actual apartment. Once again, I was locked out as the instructions I was given were flat out wrong (I was told I’d have to get a physical key from a lockbox, but the worker I encountered earlier would later tell me that all the locks were actually electronic). I resorted to calling their customer service line that’s supposedly for emergencies only (also, can anyone explain why the phone number is for a place in San Francisco?!). They were able to give me the correct building access code, and was told that code would be the same for my room (it was not - it was the code from the initial instructions sent to me). They were clueless on how to help me check in to my room early and I had to wait until 3pm for my apartment code to activate. Frustrated that I’d spent money for an early check in I didn’t get, I called the customer service line one last time to ask if they could help arrange a late check out since I’d already paid $20. They said they would have to “contact the building owner” and would get back to me - unsurprisingly, they never called back. I was so fed up I just ate the loss and accepted I’d been scammed. Though after looking at other reviews, maybe I was one of the luckier ones as I at least actually did end up getting to use the apartment that night.
Just don’t stay here. It’s not worth the...
Read moreDecided to stay here for a trip for the football game. When we arrived we realized there was son parking so had to park in a parking garage across the street and pay an extra $75. No big deal but annoying the price isn’t included with the initial payment. The prices were already jacked up because it was a football weekend. When we got to the front door there’s a box you have to put a code in and hope someone didn’t take your keys to enter the building and enter your room.
The hallways were small and suspect. Reminded me the feeling of walking down the hallway of an old hospital or school. When we got the the room we were surprised as it wasn’t as small as we suspected. Small like a college dorm but spread out enough it wasn’t horrible. There was a sink, coffee maker, stove and fridge. The bathroom was extremely small, hard to stand to use the toilet and you could hardly wash your body in the shower. This was by far the worst part of it.
The bedroom/living room was ok. Two dorm style beds and a couch with a tv. The beds weren’t comfortable so I decided to sleep in the couch. Woke up both mornings with a sore back and wondered why. Moved the couch cushion to realize there was a massive hole in the couch with springs showing(No wonder I woke up sore).
The room is good enough for people like us who only use it to rest your head at night. Other than that I would not suggest staying if you’re looking for comfort. The area in general wasn’t the best but a few blocks away it was super nice. There were homeless people on the sidewalks and trash on the ground. Sketchy for any single female or people with kids. I give a 2 star only because it hit the needs of myself. If I come back to Pittsburgh I probably won’t stay again as I’ll stay closer to the square or Fort Pittsburgh. I’ll gladly pay a little more to stay in a nice hotel. Lesson learned.
Also not having staff on site and The whole key thing is annoying too. Having to carry around 2 keys. Not to mention having to worry about putting them back in the box when you leave instead of leaving them...
