Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center — Attraction in Plano

UPDATE Jun 2024: Over the years I come to this rec center for change of scenery and to use upstairs exercise room equipment. Of which they have a lot. Today's visit was hopefully to use the lap pool as my HOA neighborhood pool is too hot to swim in comfortably. That happens every summer of course but this week especially hot. And I got to swim at TMC, Yea!!! My favorite lap swim pool Oak Point Rec center is overwhelmed with kids when school is out getting lessons or competition practice. There has been a makeover in TMC's men shower room since I last used it which is great. The big news is the makeover the center is getting in 2025. Here is what the city council voted on. "During a Plano City Council meeting on June 24, 2024, council members approved an expenditure for the Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center renovation project. The Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center, located at 5801 W Parker Road, will undergo a $15.9 million renovation project funded by the 2021 bond to enhance various aspects of the building, including the pool area and exercise rooms, addressing critical infrastructure needs. This project also includes essential maintenance that, if postponed, could lead to more costly repairs in the future, according to the city." UPDATE Jun 2022. Still a great place to get a workout. There were lots of people here today as school is out for summer vacation. Outdoor pool was getting lots of splash. See photos. I haven't been here for years as my usual rec center was closed for AC work this week. I plan to come back more often and sooner2016: A great bargain offered by the city. This is my go-to place for swimming laps as the nearest rec center to my house doesn't have a pool...yet. Lots and lots of activity going on here all day every day. A wondrous place of merriment. Some two months past, as we did sport with table tennis, two brothers brown of skin did interrupt our game and claim They had the court by right of prior call, And bade us to wait for fifty score. The morrow next we did inquire in person If we could book the court with our consent, But she that kept the register did worsen Our hopes and said no rules there were nor rent, we might play as we please. I made the same request unto her face, And then she brought the paper with her grace. So I agreed to end our game in pace, According to the document in place. But lo, before the time was fully spent, Another man of bulky frame did vent His spleen and urged us to forsake the court, And I did tell him all that did report. He then did deem that three minutes more Were all we had to play and keep our score, Not twenty from the time that one did list (Who by the way did chide me and resist. She came but fifteen minutes past and saw How we were much disturbed and kept in awe.)

I agree with people said about inconsistency rule. Their staff are really inconsistent about the rule and regulations. One minutes say ok the next day say not ok. They seem to have disconnected communication with each other. They really are not a good team member.

I have bad experience with kick board rule which I don’t know if it doesn’t allow to be used on friday-sunday during kid hours. They didn’t tell me after 45 mins, I was In the water. Which make me feel very bad in front lot of people looking at me, when someone came and talked towards me.

I had to talk to the manager there and made almost 45 min conversation about the rule. It just doesn’t make sense to me as kick board is not allow but shooting toy is allowed. Kick board is for learning swim in the pool. If weren’t allow during kids hours then when can kids will be able to learn to swim. Not everyone have pool backyard or have community pool. I think it doesn’t make sense at all for me, just because for safety reason. Kick board foam : make overcrowded? make other injured? What about a plastic toy, it can injured somebody too, right? Common what kind of reason if that.

I personally think they should allow it, since it is one of the tool for learning to swim.
