We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. We were looking for a nicer feeling dinner with food that was unique to Texas, and this met that criteria. We split their most popular dish which is the relleno/steak and also had the queso fundido. The queso was prepared table side which was fun. It was served in tortillas which was not the way I've historically seen it prepared. The main dish was delicious with the steak well prepared and seasoned. The manager came by our table because he heard it was our first visit. He checked on us several times throughout the visit, and also offered us a free dessert for being first time guests. He was great, and we appreciated the service. We ended up getting the churros which were so good (especially considering we didn't pay for them)! They were stuffed and served with a chocolate sauce and ice cream. When the waiter saw I was pregnant, he offered me a mojito mocktail which also was delicious. They clearly have high standards of keeping the table cleared off and meeting customer needs. It was very impressive. The food felt fresh and aligned with their "from scratch" advertising.
The only critical notes that I have are the following: I don't love being asked for a review online because it ends up feeling like the extra good service was provided for a review. I leave reviews anyway, but I understand that not everyone does. The waiter was very sweet and professional, but he did struggle with some English. This made it difficult when I was trying to ask him about the sourcing of the steak which is relevant due to pregnancy. He couldn't really answer my question due to translation issues. The last critical note has to do with the comfort of the table/booths. I am short, so I know that this critique may not apply for the average person. I did find that I was uncomfortable due to the huge gap behind the booth seat. My legs were also hanging about a foot off the ground because of the height of the booths. The experience was still great overall, but I would have been more comfortable if I had somewhere to put my feet or there was a more ergonomic design. I don't usually have this issue...
Read moreI stopped at Mi Dia in Plano last night with a friend of mine. I have been several times over the years but I guess have never reviewed them.
The restaurant is located off of the North Dallas tollway. The entrance is rustic and the doors are heavy and unique. Walking into the restaurant you are instantly welcomed with the beautiful aesthetic. The bar is one of the focal points of the restaurant and has a circular bar top with a prime view of the kitchen. I like the textured tile.
The seating throughout the restaurant is well appointed, the bench seats are cushy and suck you in. I like the privacy screens that they used around the restaurant to create some division. Stacked stone on the walls give a nice texture. The patio overlooks a fountain and has a nice ambiance.
A lot of the Craft cocktails are centered around tequila which I'm not a huge fan of but my friend certainly is. She tried several drinks and enjoyed them all but the one we got a kick out of was "when hell freezes over". It is a bubbling concoction that has a really nice spice profile and is served in a martini glass, the dry ice bubbled and fogged for quite a while. It was garnished with a spicy salted rim and a cucumber. Really fun.
There were so many fabulous options on the menu it was really hard for us to decide! We had elote for an appetizer and shared the carne asada and the salmon. The carne asada was perfectly cooked and was served with sauteed onions, rice and borracho beans. I did feel like it was missing one other item of substance, perhaps peppers or small potatoes would have been a nice mix with the onions. The salmon had a delightful flavor and with paired with a mango puree and a shredded cucumber top. Both really flavorful.
Our server was friendly and had great follow-up, she did a great job.
Even though the dessert menu looked decadent and amazing, we had both eaten so much that we couldn't have managed a dessert if we tried.
Wonderful experience, I love this restaurant and will certainly be back in the...
Read moreI can say with full certainty that Mi Dia From Scratch is currently my favorite Mexican restaurant of all time. It's truly one of the best places to find quality Mexican dishes, and just quality food in general. I'll gladly explain my opinion as to why.
I arrived there to discover a plush and lovely looking establishment. It's high-end style was a perfect atmosphere for it's type of cuisine. The service was excellent, and my waitress was very attentive to my needs. Along with my drink, I was also given a complimentary water. I noticed that when you order Coca-Cola, it comes straight to you in a glass bottle. All the drinks were served in quaint glasses to add to the restaurant's plush environment. The chips tasted fresh, and the red and verde salsas were perfect. The prices are more upscale, but so is the quality. I ordered the Stacked Enchiladas lunch special, and it has to be one of the best Mexican dishes I have ever had. The chicken and fried egg were cooked perfectly, and the red and green chile sauces complimented the flavors beautifully. In my own words, it was a perfect dish. Finally, I decided to try the sopapillas; which tasted amazing and came with sweet, delicious honey. The presentation of every dish I was served was also well placed and well thought out.
Overall, it was truly an above-excellent experience. I give a perfect score of 5/5. It's definitely a restaurant I highly recommend for anyone looking for a true Mexican lunch or dinner. It will satisfy your taste with dishes that It lives up to it's name because it is "from scratch". I look forward to heading back there for more lunches and dinners...
