Very rude and aggressive staff.
First, we know and accept your club rule forcing wearing shoes. At the same time, doing yoga in shoes is much more traumatic than barefoot. Anyway, nobody was going to violate the rules without permission. A time ago, my wife asked Fitness 19 employees about this. She has been told that she may take off her shoes if she is doing yoga in the turf zone (distant from any equipment) on her own mat. She is barefoot only on her mat and doesn't leave the mat without shoes. It's not the one place where she's got such permission. She asked that in Dublin and Livermore clubs and got similar answers. After that, everything was fine for months.
So, my wife did her strength workout and started doing short (10-15 min) yoga stretching. Josh came to her and demanded to wear shoes very rudely and disrespectfully. My wife rejected his demands, but she did it only because of how rude his demand was. If previously granted permission to be carefully barefoot in a limited area was revoked - that should be explained. At that moment, my wife called me. We didn't hang up the call, and I heard the following conversation for 20 minutes. Josh and two other employees (names unknown) decided to force my wife to leave the club and called the police. At the same time, when my wife wanted to fulfill their requirement to go, they didn't allow her to leave. They took all her belongings and didn't allow her to reach the locker to grab her documents, car keys, etc. They detained my wife for around 15 minutes until the police arrived. And only the police helped her to take her belongings back and leave the club. What is the kind of bullying when someone demands you to go and doesn't allow you to take your belongings and leave? Is it normal for Fitness 19 to punish customers by detention?
In a couple of days, we arranged a meeting with Chad Lee, the manager of the Pleasanton club. We both (my wife and I) were in this conversation. We went outside so we wouldn't disturb other people. The final position of Chad was clear: everything he heard from his colleagues was true; everything he heard from us was a lie, and we may go away. Besides, Chad refused to tell us the names of two other employees involved in the accident. That's what excellent customer service is, isn't it? At the end of the conversation, Josh came to us. Note, it was not inside the club, where Josh may have heard our conversation. It was on the street, and Josh deliberately intervened. He asked what was going on. I don't understand; who is the main manager of the Pleasanton club, Chad or Josh? We asked for a personal conversation with Chad. Why does Josh consider his intervention as appropriate? I explained to Josh the essence of our complaints and politely asked Josh to leave us and let us finish the conversation with Chad. He refused. Is that normal? Josh's behavior was bullying, arrogant, and provocative. Josh relished in his superiority. I asked Chad several times to remove Josh from our conversation and let us finish the talk since Josh's behavior only escalated the situation. Chad refused. Moreover, Chad clearly showed us that Josh is his "best buddy," and we may leave. We have nothing to do to...
Read moreI had an extremely unpleasant experience at this gym, specifically due to the actions of an employee named Brian. I've encountered him on multiple occasions, and the latest incident compelled me to leave this one-star review.
Today, I approached Julius, another employee, to check me in after he finished assisting another customer, since they were going to take a long time. Julius kindly obliged, knowing I had a valid membership, but Brian, who seems to relish in asserting his perceived authority, decided to interject. Despite being fully aware and saw that I had been checked in by Julius, Brian insisted on detaining me, following me through the gym and used an incredibly condescending tone throughout the interaction, calling me "bud" and "buddy", not in a friend-to-friend matter, but in the condescending tone he always has.
Not only did he dismiss my attempts to explain the situation, but he also went so far as to threaten to revoke my membership. It's worth noting that other employees I am familiar with, have confirmed that Brian lacks the authority to carry out such threats. His refusal to listen and constant condescension made the entire encounter thoroughly unprofessional and left me feeling disrespected and unheard.
What's even more troubling is that this is not an isolated incident. I've heard from friends who have experienced similar harassment from Brian, being hassled to check in despite having valid memberships, while others are allowed to stroll in without scrutiny. It should also be pointed out that whenever Brian closes the gym without another employee, several employees I am friends/ familiar with have told me that he acts more "highly" and uses his "power" as an employee to tell people off or tell them to get out.
I completely understand the importance of scanning in with a valid membership and not free-loading, but Brian seems more interested in causing problems that could have easily been solved by confirming with Julius, as I suggested during the incident. His behavior is not only unprofessional but also creates unnecessary tension and frustration for gym members.
Brian's condescension, unprofessionalism, and abuse of perceived authority are unacceptable. I hope the management takes appropriate action to address this issue and ensures that members are treated with the respect they deserve. I am willing
P.S. I was told that there is a new app system to check in (which I didn't know about) , so I will be definitely be making an account to limit interactions with Brian. It's important to note that my experiences at the gym have generally been positive, and I have never encountered any issues with other employees, highlighting that the problem seems to be specific to...

I cannot begin to express my gratitude and admiration for my trainer, Josh, and the entire Fitness 19 gym. When I first walked through their doors, I was over 380lbs and felt extremely self-conscious about my weight. I was embarrassed to be in a gym, but I desperately wanted to change my life for the better. Little did I know that Fitness 19 and Josh would be the catalysts for that transformation.
From day one, the gym provided a welcoming and supportive environment that made me feel at ease. The atmosphere at Fitness 19 has been so encouraging that I now visit almost every day, and I owe this newfound dedication to the team there.
The trainers at Fitness 19 are nothing short of amazing. They offer invaluable advice on form, provide endless encouragement, and always recognize the progress I've made. The gym fosters a culture of cooperation, and I've lost count of the number of times fellow members have approached me to offer support, invite me to train with them, or simply cheer me on.
Five months ago, I began working with Josh, and he has been instrumental in pushing me towards my goals. He expertly adapts my workout program to meet my needs and never lets me use my weight as an excuse. Josh is constantly challenging me to reach new heights, and I am consistently amazed by what I can achieve under his guidance.
Fitness 19 as a brand is truly committed to helping its members succeed. They invest time and effort into developing tools that facilitate our progress both in and out of the gym.
