This was a spur of the moment get away for my birthday. A friend of mine went online and booked it and then told me we were going for a night. A very nice surprise.
To be honest I wanted to give a 3/5 star, but I did not because the service was very good.
This is an older building and I feel it is in a great spot - a couple blocks away to head down the main street, Court Street. From here you can walk down to the waterfront within six blocks. There are many restaurants with many different types of food, a lot of little shops. Because it is winter time some of the shops / restaurants were not open. But the selection was still excellent for anyone with a craving for a specific type of food.
Mediterranean, Italian, BBQ, American/Seafood, Mexican, Asian-Thai/Chinese. Dressy, casual and in between.
The service was great, Thank You Rachele B, because our room was right next to a very loud family and extremely thin walls š, we requested to be moved and Rachele B had no problem accommodating this change.
The pool is a really cool area, it has a hot tub and a tube you can slide down into the water. Very kid friendly and adult friendly. I really like the ambiance and there is a lifeguard as well.
They do have a miniature arcade. You put money on to a card and you play for points/tickets. It was just my friend and I and we had a blast.
The restaurant attached is part of the hotel, only by being in the same building, not the same owners. CJ's grill was a nice ambiance as well, the bar area can see quite a few people. And then there is a side that is restaurant as well.
I had the avocado, cheese and tomato on sourdough and I added bacon. The sourdough is really fresh and the sandwich was really good. They also make homemade tater tots which were very good as well. Fried to perfection.
The Bartender, Hope was very friendly and we had some great conversation. Drinks were good as well. A bit pricey, but good. You can also take a drink to go in a styrofoam cup if you wanted to take it to your room or to the hotel lobby or to the arcade or to the pool.
There were a few things that I was not super happy with And to begin with it was the parking lot that was pretty dirty. A lot of cigarette butts and garbage. You can definitely tell it was not kept up.
There was someone who was homeless and had all of their belongings right above the parking lot - a bit close as far as I'm concerned to the hotel. For some that might make them feel a bit shady at night and unsure. We did not have any issues.
There is also construction going on in the hotel, which I feel is, well great for them, However I feel the construction anywhere someone is going to be sleeping should be noted on the website. Maybe even some type of discount for sleep being interrupted. Most people who get a room at a hotel are on vacation and maybe want to sleep past 7:30 in the morning, without waking up...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf I could rate zero I would. It is not due to any person but the Inn itself. I drove over 5 hours to stay at this facility. I have never been before. It was not "cheap" as far as the rates and I expected it to be a 4 star hotel as it is rated and listed as. We arrived for check in and the man working was friendly. The lobby looked ok. Nothing fancy or updated. There is one elevator which makes it very crowded in the entrance way to it, and you have to wait your turn if there is a few because some people using those bell hop carts. Once we get our turn in the elevator and got to the second floor -you could smell people had smoked here. We get to the room and as soon as we walk in we are hit in the face with the overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke! The room smelled like a smoking casino. Absolutely disgusting. The room was dingy-hot and wreaked of smoke. I immediately lugged our luggage and us back downstairs ( with the whole elevator waiting game again) went to the front desk and complained. There was no way we were staying a second longer in that room. The man working accommodated in switching our room- to a room on the same floor - opposite end of same hallway. We went into that room- same thing! This room was worse- bed wasn't made right- wreaked of smoke - wallpaper peeling off in spots etc..... tried to open the window to see if the smell would leave.....it was too overpowering. Now if your a smoker -I'm sure you wouldn't smell it but for my non smoking friends like myself and also with children like myself- it is the amount of smoke you are near where it gives you a sore throats pretty quickly- that's how bad! I googled and found a Hilton Garden Inn 15 mins away. I spoke with Tabitha and explained what was happening at John Carver- she completely accommodated me- let me call her back and held a room for me -while I went for my third and finally trip lugging our luggage and persons back to the front desk to demand a refund. The man understood and I told him I am booking elsewhere-I could not sleep in that place 10 mins let alone 3 days. He stated he would of thought housekeeping would tell them if the rooms smell. And that they just had the carpets clean so maybe that's why???? Really!! We left and drove to the Hilton where Tabitha was at the desk. She booked me my three night stay and we opened our room door to a nice air conditioned clean smelling room in this decade. We are not in walking distance like we were at the John Carver but being able to breathe clean air and sleep is worth a little drive. Also just from the up and down room game there- our shirts and hair already smell like smoke. Non...
Read moreRudest staff I have ever dealt with in my life. I am a receptionist myself and absolutely love my job. I am all about customer service and complimenting on good service and rarely say anything at all when service is bad.. but a gentleman here raised his voice at me threatened to call police giving me no time to check out although I do admit to oversleeping past checkout time by 20 minutes. I was so upset crying apologizing from the bottom of my heart and was continued to be scolded with a raised voice. Not to mention my husband has asthma and allergies⦠the vents were completely filled with dust almost clogged and I was in the suite with the jacuzzi bath. I asked to speak to a manager in which was told there was no one available today and was refused to speak with any higher staff. I will never come back here or refer friends or family to this hotel again. So disappointed with how we were treated as guests. So so upset. Wish I had a better experience to have left a better review. ;(
Coming from the owner who we did not speak to personally⦠defending the staff who did not tell the truth is absolutely crazy when the owner was not present. If you were to look at the cameras they would see that my husband was trying to pay at the desk .. we needed a short period to pack the belongings after the front desk refused to rent us the room after paying nearly $500 for the suite for one night. Also the gentleman who came to the room asking us to leave threatening to call authorities when we were trying to rush was raising his voice yelling down the hallway at me made me so upset and afraid to defend myself is also on the cameras ⦠owning and managing a business.. you should know that regardless .. (besides the fact that this should have all been recorded) the customer is always right. Unfortunately your staff members and you being the owner also not being present should have further investigated this issue and personally addressed with the guests. So once again⦠this was such poor service and we are so disappointed after being so excited to visit this resort ⦠we were treated as if we were out of control .. we will not be recommending for any of our friends or family to stay here. We hope that this resort makes a few changes in regards to staff members and cleanliness (the vents were blowing the entire time to circulate the air which was pretty smart but again.. the vents were completely clogged with thick dust ) and my husband has health issues which concerned us. Hope John carver inn can better serve their guests .. so sorry once again I do not ever broadcast bad service but this was completely...
