We finally did it!!! Memorial Day 2021 🇺🇸Big Bertha’s 1st boondocking at Port Aransas Beach. Let me tell you, after all the research I’ve done, I felt so confident that this would wrk. When u own a rig (small or big), u have to try boondocking sometime whether it be now or later. What kind of research? Well, I won’t go into detail that would take too long but here are the main important take aways when boondocking at Port A or any beach. This part I will go into more detail in hopes this info will inspire other. Here it goes… Location: Google maps gave a visual, for the most part, where on the beach would give the best area that will give space to get in/out of, where high tide would end, and where most RVs are that seems safe enough. We chose Access Rd 1-A nxt to the wooden poles. Jack supports: We used sturdy plywood big enough to put under jack stabilizers. This will prevent you from sinking in the sand. Bring a shovel or 2 for “just in case” purposes. (Digging a fire pit, digging ur way out, etc.) Fill tanks: Most important is where to fill up your fresh water tanks. Find a place near by where u want to be. U don’t want to drive far with all the liquid weight. We went with Pioneer RV Resort (4min drive). $8.00 to fill up and $8.00 to dump. Then we filled 30 gal of fuel for generator & golf cart at the stripes gas station at corner of 361 & access rd 1-A; (max is 60 gal in Big Bertha.) Key is water conservation. Turn on generator only when needed and of course at night to sleep comfortably. If u want to bring ur own personal golf cart, u have to have it registered at the City of Port Aransas ($50 annually for residents/$100 for non resident) plus beach parking permit ($12 annual fee per veh; golf cart and truck in our case) U will need to complete an application (print online), proof of golf cart insurance, & copy of photo ID. We emailed them the docs and paid over the phone. All we had to do was pick up the plates and stickers at the Police station since we arrived after hrs. NOTE: if u don’t register it, u will be fined $500 without warning. I’d rather pay $124 vs $500.
We arrived Friday and stayed til Sunday. Spent this weekend with my BIL and his fam. Figured a short stay would be best to figure out our limits. (I wanted to stay another night bc we had a good spot and it was so relaxing but we were running low on freshwater and fuel. I so did not want to use the public portapotties 🤮) Best decision ever! It worked out perfect 👌🏽 Would we do it again? ABSOLUTELY!!! There are a few minor things we could’ve and will do differently nxt time.
Night time was the best part. When everyone has either left or called it a day and retired to their own campsites. Listening to the sound of the ocean in the dark night gave me the chance to reflect on life and finally give thanks to remember those in my family that served and is still serving our country....

Read moreDefinitely the highlight of our vacation! As it was 4th of July weekend, I thought the beach would be insanely busy and crowded, but it wasn't! Be sure and get a parking pass ($12 for the year) before going to avoid a parking ticket. You can get one at any Stripes/Valero in Port A.
The beach was clean! It was staffed with lifeguards! They use the color coded flag system to advise swimmers of the water conditions! The beach had fine, soft sand that got into everything, but was easy on our feet. It's extremely windy so we put the beach blanket, etc. back in the car. As it was a short walk from the car to the water we figured we could run back if needed.
The water was clean and clear although there were a lot of waves. One of the days we visited, it was low tide so you could walk out at least a 1/2 mile before you were getting hit by a wave around your knees. On that day we saw a lot of fish, a sting ray (small), and a sea turtle (fairly small compared to an adult sea turtle). It was awesome.
I highly recommend visiting Port A beach! We will be back for sure.
Tips: Wear sunblock. It sun feels intense as there's no shade. Bring a beach umbrella of you're going to lounge. Watch your kids. There is often times a rip tide and big waves that can knock them over. Watch for wild life... there's a lot. Don't forget your beach parking pass. (There are a lot of beach access roads where you can find parking as well without paying the fee. The $12 fee was worth the...
