My husband and I went to Academy Sunday Sept 13th in search of a queen size double air mattress. This is after Laura had hit and before Delta. Our daughter lives in Louisiana and per 2020 at the last minute needed to get away from a hurricane with their new dog. Needless to say no hotel rooms nearby. We had already been to one Walmart, called another and checked other stores nearby and then decided to check Academy. We didn't see what we wanted so we asked someone in sporting goods if they had anymore, anywhere. We explained the situation and not only did they help look for us, but then they called other locations. We left empty handed and more than a little concerned, but it doesn't end there. They kept looking and found a regular, flatter queen and actually tried to catch us in the parking lot before we left to let us know they had that style. Read moreI find myself in Academy on a weekly basis. I buy all kinds of equipment, clothes, and hunting stuff from here. The four stars is because lately this Academy has had some young employees (I know they probably all have younger employees) that are not helpful. I've needed help and can't find anyone, when I do they were just talking to their other young coworkers. I've overheard the parties they went to or will be going to, who they're dating, and about "crappy customers" they've recently dealt with. Other than the gossiping, I've had too many bad experiences at the registers. I know I sound like the old "get off my lawn" guy and trust me I'm not. I'm very patient and hard to upset. I understand (and encourage) hiring young people here, but it's up to management to get this under control! I want to give 5 stars, and originally had 4 stars, but after remembering these lately, I've changed it to 3 stars. If this improves I'll gladly come back and move up the stars to 4 or even 5. Read moreWatched 30 plus people get checked out while my dad and I stood at register 8 for 24 minutes after purchasing a fishing license waiting for some one that is TRAINED to do issue it. I was told by the manager that finally came to check on Seth (the employee who was “trained” that I asked 17 min prior to assist as he was at the in store pick up aisle with no one to help- he picked up the phone and called over the intercom as the other lady had done twice already) so I ask the manager why people aren’t trained to do this simple task and or step up to help a customer instead of calling over the intercom for someone else… I was told there are fines the company receives for typing in wrong info !?!? Just excuses and no customer appreciation or service at all. This academy needs to do better....
