Spent a week at this CG .. we were in site #14.. we had electric (50/amp) only. There’s a dump station and a water filling area as well. The campground has nice showers. Our site was not quite long enough for us to park in the standard “back in” position but we were able to very successfully park at an angle which we really loved. The site itself was wide so we had plenty of room. This location allows for driving on the beach so we spent everyday on the beach. Our site overlooked the bay but was separated by small dunes, which are environmentally protected so we had to drive around. The bay side is perfect for swimming, floating, kayaking and fishing. Great waking along the shore and of course the beach was beautiful. So many beautiful birds to see! It’s right across the bay from a Navy base so we enjoyed the occasional M22’s and Black Hawk Helios flying over. Huguenot Memorial Park is located on an island (St John) and is not really close to any stores. It’s about a 30 -40 minute drive into Jacksonville. There is a ferry that will get You there in 15 minutes that runs every 30 minutes. We had strong TMobile, Sprint and Verizon WiFi. There is a camp host living in a 5th wheel but we never saw him or her. (We didn’t need to) This was a bit primitive for us having to monitor our water. Fine powdery sand is everywhere. It’s a very relaxing and quiet campground. Even on the weekend when it was full, many families and a really nice playground for kiddos. We truly absolutely loved this place and look forward to returning for...
Read moreThe beach is very nice. The fishing is great. The parking lots are littered with broken glass, Taco Bell sauce packets, 40 bottles, and urine. If you have ever ridden a wave longer than 3 seconds here, you've scored. It is called "Wallneme" for a reason. Gets ample swell but zero organized sandbars. There is a myth about a wave down at Rockside, but you will never see that in your lifetime. The late great Butch Towers, God rest his soul, used to always tell you how good it was at the Pier today but that was only because of his unconditional love for HIS beach. And it was HIS beach. Law enforcement has put many old school HBLs into retirement but there are still some very salty dogs that will not let you enjoy your day here, unless you are from Sinaloa, Jalisco, or South Oxnard. The beach is a favorite of day laborers who frequently can be seen in the water wearing blue jeans and t-shirts, keeping the Hueneme lifeguards super busy. If you come here to swim around, be careful because the currents are extremely powerful and the water is very cold 11.5 months of the year. If you want to surf 8 foot closeouts and have your tires slashed, by all means, come to Hueneme. At night, you'd be insane to park at the beach and...
Read moreIt's a lovely beach, southerly exposure which is so different from Hollywood Beach where I usually walk. I was walking a dog and they are not allowed on the beach so we stayed in the walkway. But it was really lovely looking out at the water and across the beachfront. People were having such a good time, the lifeguards are very active there watching out for everyone. We walked out onto the pier, which is very popular and gives a great view of the beach and ocean. Very nice folks, friendly and chatting☺️ There was live music at the fish restaurant just before the pier which has outdoor seating protected from the wind by plexiglass walls. I've never eaten there but it seemed pretty popular and I assume it's pricey. The area feels a little depressed and rough compared to what I'm used to but it feels safe enough and maybe that is the influence of the Naval Base that this little community is organized around. I'm glad I went and definitely will go back, it was a relaxing and...
