Excellent Location - 1 block walk to the beach!!! Pizza, Thai food, liquor store etc across the street. Also an easy drive to nearby Oxnard Restaurants, shopping, etc.
Customer Service - The staff at this hotel were ALL super friendly.
Food: Happy Hour (4-6pm??) was cool. Chips, melted cheese, jalapenos, olives, pretzels, spiced peanuts, popcorn all good snacking munchies along with 3 choices of beers as well as red or white wine, juice and sodas.
Breakfast was mediocre with a pre-fixed omelette (not really warm), bagels, toast, muffins and a toaster, pancakes, dry cereal and oatmeal packages. I've definitely had better. Their coffee was good and they provide real creamers and real butter for toast. Also, they had coffee available all day.
Room: Our room (228) was on the 2nd floor (ugh big mistake because they had soccer families staying at the hotel with lots of kids and the people above us seemed to run back and forth all night and all morning). Also, we could hear EVERY sound outside and in the hallway as well as above us. I'm am very rarely bothered by noise but at this hotel I could barely sleep it was so annoying. The 2nd night was a little better because we turned on the A/C FAN to use the humming to drown out the outside noises which allowed us to fall asleep.
Our room had 5 lamps and each lamp had 2 plugs -- sounds perfect right? WRONG! All of the plugs were so large/loose that we could not use a single one to charge our cell phones because they wouldn't make a connection and would just fall out or jiggle. We had to use the kitchen or bathroom outlets.
TV remote controls and many channels weren't working properly but HBO was nice to have and I was bummed there is no "sleep" timer on the TV's.
WiFi was FREE and worked decent most of the time.
Room Kitchen: Perfect! Refrigerator which worked well, microwave, plastic ware, soap to wash dishes, sink and counter space were good.
Cleanliness: Our room was very clean - no issues whatsoever.
Pool: I didn't use the pool, just the pool area. The faux wicker seats were rather uncomfortable because they are made for large pillows but these don't have any pillows so I wasn't really able to sit out their for very long and just read a book.
We will definitely stay here again when in the area because I loved the location and the beach nearby was unbelievably quiet and peaceful. Room rates...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed there February 12th-14th while visiting our son who is training at Port Hueneme naval base, we booked the large king suite with sofa bed since our son was able to stay off base with us for the weekend. The bedroom had a door so we all had our privacy. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and went to great measures to have the plumbing issue in our bathroom fixed, no hot water. The first morning there water in the shower went from lukewarm to cool which made for pretty uncomfortable morning wake up for the three of us. My husband called front desk after which they promptly sent a workman to check on it. Unfortunately an issue he couldn't fix, the front desk offered to move us to a smaller suite but we declined because the bedroom wasn't private. They had engineers working on the issue and when we returned that evening my husband checked and we were happy to discover that we had hot water, unfortunately the next morning the hot water lasted long enough to get my hair all lathered up and turned ice cold before I could get it rinsed out, it stayed cold as ice. I was upset and called down to the front desk. The staff was wonderful, I hate that I didn't even get the woman's name that we dealt with. She personally came up to our room with a room key for my son and husband to go to another room to be able to have a hot shower. She repeatedly apologized for the inconvenience and her sincerity was genuine. When we checked out she ended up taking off one nights room charges to make up for the inconvenience. Again, repeated heartfelt apologies as though the issue was her fault. I might also add that the woman who worked the breakfast area was so nice, checked on guests to take their trash or asked.if she could bring them anything else. Things happened beyond staff control but it was handled...
Read moreOverall, I enjoyed my stay here. We stayed for 5 nights, with 2 small children, which can be a little chaotic. The staff were very helpful in getting us set up (a crib, extra shampoo and soap, making the pull out sofa into a bed). The breakfast staff was always very helpful in getting our boys breakfast.
The pool was heated and clean. My kids enjoyed swimming in it every day. Towels were readily available and staff frequently asked if there was anything they could get us.
Happy hour was a wonderful way to end an afternoon of swimming.
My biggest disappointment was the 3rd floor fitness room. There were two treadmills, two stationary bikes, and some free weights. One treadmill was completely broken the whole time we were there (I told staff) and the other was so old and rickety that I was afraid it was going to fall apart while I ran on it. Plus, the running programs on it were horrible. A more basic treadmill would work just as well, if not better. No one was ever using the bikes, so that seemed like a waste. Also, regarding the free weight, there was one 5 lb barbell, one 10 lb barbell, and then two of heavier weights. It would have been nice to have pairs of the two lighter weights. And the gym wipes were always gone, so I hope staff was wiping down the machines, otherwise they were probably pretty disgusting.
Another disappointment was the shower. There was no tub for my two small children to takes baths in, so they had to take showers. And there was only a half shower door, which resulted in a LOT of...
