Yuno’s cafe restaurant & meal prep — Restaurant in Port Hueneme

Tucked away in the corner of a small center on Ventura Rd. and Hueneme Rd. is a secret little gem of a restaurant. The affable proprietor and chef, Yuno Balthazar, insists on offering generous portions of top quality ingredients at great prices. On our first visit for breakfast, my wife tried the chicken and homemade waffles while I had the French toast, with strawberries in a sweet cream sauce. Both our meals were delicious.

We returned a week or so later to sample his Italian-themed dinner menu. The hefty portion of chicken parmigiana served over pasta was tender and flavorful but not overly spicy or drenched in sauce. As an East-coast transplant from an Italian restaurant family, I can be picky but I was pleasantly surprised.

My wife loves a good burger so when a friend raved about Yuno’s, she insisted we go for lunch. Served on a soft bun, with pickle, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese and the chef’s special sauce, the huge double patties of lean, top quality beef were cooked to a perfect medium rare. We came here based on a Next Door recommendation and we were NOT disappointed. The space has such a nice vibe and the staff are very friendly. The owner, Yuno, came over and chatted with us and he was very kind and you can tell he takes a lot of pride in what he does.

But the food y’all. The food is sooooo good. We got the hot honey wings, the chicken schnitzel sandwich, and the chicken Marsala. I haven’t tasted anything like the hot honey wings before, they were perfectly fried and perfectly sauced. The sandwich had the juiciest, crunchiest chicken on it and was STACKED.

But the pasta dish was the true star. You wouldn’t expect this little restaurant to have some of the best Italian food in Ventura county, but they do!
