Shine your light on me….
When I visited here during Spring Break 2012, it was still located in San Blas. If you have never been in the San Blas area, its really beautiful. But due to erosion, they had to relocate the lighthouse to Port St. Joe in the last few years.
Luckily it was funded because it is my first lighthouse experience and I liked it. This is outdated information but when you visited the old place, you came up to a house and talked to the tour guide. I think the tour was $5 a piece, which is worth it. They take you up to the top of the lighthouse and you get to spend all the time you want up there. The ascent was via a very narrow spiral staircase. Once you got to the top, the view is… amazing. You can see for almost forever around you.
Sadly, I accidentally deleted all my Spring Break photos, so all I had left were the ones I posted on Facebook. Luckily I have enough to post on here so you get a general idea. Since the erosion problem and the move to Port St. Joe, it seems like they have been battling budget concerns. Read moreWe arrived at 11:00am and were the first customers of the day. After paying the $5.00 per person and chatting with the friendly woman in the gift shop, she handed me the key and told me I could unlock the padlock myself! I love the small town trust and easy going attitude about it. We ascended the first set of steps outside and after unlocking the door to the main stairs, began climbing up the interior spiral steps. I’m not a fan of heights or cramped spaces and this was both. Although not bad at all! There were two windows on the way up and numbers on the wall to tell you how many steps you had climbed. Once at the top the wind was howling. We opened the two doors that led to the cat walk around the top. My kids went first and after some coaxing I stepped out into the wind. Hanging onto the railing, I walked all the way around the top. The views were great and the experience was well worth it. The height wasn’t bad and the staircase was actually really cool. If you’re even considering this, I’d say go for it! A great memory...

You get a wonderful perspective of the area, get to see a bit of history, and you also support those who are trying to keep history alive. While here, take a look in the gift shop. There are some really nice souvenirs of your visit. They also have a list of the other three lighthouses within a couple of hours' drive. Visit them all!
There is very little parking here. If the spots are full, there are alternate parking areas around to use. You can also tour the keeper's quarters to see some of the memorabilia from when it was located on...
