I work downtown. I needed a snack. Fries seem like a good, greasy, slightly seasoned and salted snack. Call up provisions. Everybody says they're the best in town. Get my fries. Lady says $7. I think to myself "That's okay because these are gonna be the best fries in town, Florida, hell the entire south."...
I get back to work. I open my box of fried starch and plant cellulose and you know what? I'm shocked. There's a much smaller portion than was expected. No matter. I am on a one way trip to slightly seasoned and salty, fried goodness town.
I grab what I'm expecting to be a piece of potato that would be hotter that the surface of the sun and probably melt my oral tissue like the Nazi guys face on Indiana Jones and the last crusade. Instead I get a piece of dry, warm, air wrapped in a brown, potatoes like, box.
So two things. I was a soldier for many years, when I left I worked in a few kitchens. Now I do this weird thing where I count people in rooms. Today I counted 13. 3 employees, 3 children, 4 adults and 3 more adults outside. Two tables had food already on them. So I'm lead to believe that there's not a stack of tickets on that line in the back. So that being said there's one of two things that happened here. These little potato flavored air sticks were either sat under a heat lamp from lunch or double dipped in a fryer. Either way I weighed these pathetic excuses for potatoes and it came out to 10.3oz. So I got just better than a half pound of warm air for $7.
Now there's not very many options for food here in the Joe. So inevitably I will be returning for another order of the "the best food in town" and I should certainly hope that you guys have your French fried potato game...
Read moreOn a whim, my husband and I drove to Port St. Joe just so we could go have dinner at Provisions. We were actually going to bed and I mentioned how I would love to have some of their grilled garlic bread. Well, they did not dissappoint, well worth the trip! We booked a reservation online and received immediate confirmation and had dinner there last night. We ordered a basket of the grilled garlic bread with wine and then dinner. I had the Saint Joe Saute'. The shrimp was great, the scallops were very small, but that is bay scallops. It had portabella mushrooms and artichokes saute'ed with the seafood in sun-dried tomato herb beurre blanc and was served over spinach fettuccine that was topped with goat cheese. I normally shy away from goat cheese, but did not this time. It gave the dish a little bit of a funky taste, but funky in a good way, LOL. I ordered the petite portion and it was only $14. My husband ordered the Saint Joe Bouillabaisse. I had this the first time we went to Provisions (years ago) and it did not disspoint, it was just as good as it was the first time, which is hard to come by. The bouillabaisse was full with shrimp, scallops, huge mussels, snapper and red tomatoes. The broth was delicious too, add a little vodka and you could just drink it! The broth is a savory saffron, tomato broth and as I said earlier, oh so good! My husband ordered the petite size as well, so the meal was very economical for a lovely evening out. We had the bread, 2 entree's (which comes with bread too), 2 glasses of wine and our bill was less than $50. Where else can...
Read moreWe happened upon Provisions by a perfectly imperfect happenstance and it immediately became our favorite place! The food was other worldly delicious, we loved every single bite of every single dish! The spinach artichoke dip was heavenly, it was creamy and velvety with freshly shaved parm on top and the flavor was hands down the best we’ve ever had! My husband sheepishly said it was even better than mine and I wholeheartedly agreed (I must see if I can get the recipe)! The Saint Joe Sauté was insanely scrumptious with a perfectly executed explosion of flavor and absolutely full of seafood, I mean every bite was full of seafood and the pasta…oh ya’ll, the pasta was handmade and fresh! It was tender and silky and the perfect vessel to carry its luxurious creamy cargo! Our oldest daughter had the mussels and honestly couldn’t get the food to her mouth fast enough! She sopped up every drop of that amazing sauce with her bread. My husband had the fish tacos which were spot on in flavor and texture! Our youngest daughter who unfortunately wasn’t very hungry due to an ill timed snack after a late scrimmage of volleyball on the beach ordered the Caesar with chicken which was phenomenal with real house made Caesar dressing! The service was incredible even though it was close to closing time they treated us as if they had all night and nothing more they’d rather do than to make our experience exceptional! We will be back to Provisions before the end of our trip and this will be a staple for all future trips. RUN, DO NOT WALK, and DO NOT HESITATE to eat here! It’s a good...
