They probably don’t deserve just one star from me. But I won’t go back. So it might as well be zero. I enjoy going to pet stores to get stuff for my cats. And I like to talk to the people who work there because I love my cats like most people and enjoy talking about them and asking questions. The people who work at this shop are consistently disinterested in having such conversations. Even when they do have conversations with you, they seem bothered. I’ve probably been there ten times now.
I went in to the store just now on a Sunday morning, not having planned to go to a pet store. I just saw one on my way home and was excited to get a few things for my boys. The store was completely empty when I got to it. They had two staff members in the back. Well at least two staff members. One of them shouted hello and went back to chatting. No one came out front, so I don’t know how many people were back there. But I had at least five or six questions to ask and planned to buy five or six things. But at some point, I realized they didn’t deserve my business.
I told them respectfully as I was leaving that I was going to go elsewhere because I had questions to ask and they didn’t seem interested in asking them. I had to go to the back room to communicate the message. In their defense they were very apologetic and invited me to come back someday. Obviously I’m joking: they didn’t apologize. They didn’t even respond.
I’m trying to be more understanding in these situations and not as frustrated, but the part that bothers me is that they don’t even seem to know it’s a problem. Some of it’s the younger generation and some of it’s just the way things are now around Portland. When I was growing up, and out shopping with my grandma, it was pretty easy to find someone stocking a shelf and ask them a question. And those people knew it was their responsibility to have an answer. That’s just not the case anymore. And it’s Unfortunate. I think it’s bad for the whole community.
Anyway, I’ll find another pet store. And they’ll probably close at some point soon and start doing business exclusively online. The staff will live off unemployment and complain about automation. Then homeless people will find a way into the empty space to sleep and get high because they’re cold and tired on the Portland Streets. Then one night they’ll accidentally start a fire and burn down half the block. And everybody will blame the homeless people for...
Read moreHad an disappointing experience here yesterday. I know about Fang from following them on Instagram, but had never visited them before. I needed garden supplies and my Mom needed supplies for her kitty, so figured we could kill two birds with one stone. As soon as we arrived and I opened the store door we were asked to wait outside, which I have absolutely no problem with. Their door says one customer per party, unless you have two kids with you, which are allowed in, and only 4 people per entire store for safety. When an employee popped outside to tell us store rules I asked if they could accommodate both me and my Mom at the same time (once there were enough people out of the store) due to my my Mom having several incapacitating injuries. About a month ago my Mom fell down her stairs and suffered a brain bleed, a concussion, and two fractured wrists. She is still visibly recovering, and she also cannot lift anything on her own. The employee let me know it wasn't possible for us to shop together but they could assist her around the store. While I appreciate that they want to keep everyone safe, and that they were willing to help her I let the employee know I wasn't comfortable with that. I find Fangs rigid policy incredibly abelist. I don't want to have to explain my complicated life circumstances to people to get them to let me assist my Mother. As someone recovering from a Traumatic Brain Injury, while she is fully cognizant and on a path to recovery, I don't personally know the employees at the store, and if they'd convince my Mom to buy things she doesn't need. She also doesn't feel comfortable asking for help from strangers, and will not always tell them exactly what she needs, letting her kinda get steamrolled sometimes. It's really upsetting that Fang wouldn't let people who need their caretakers in with them have them. We are not people who are asking for special treatment, we are asking for reasonable accommodations for the situation we're in. We were willing to wait outside so we were part of only 4 customers in the store, but were denied. So we left empty handed and went to spend out money at Pets on Broadway, which lets me help my Mom shop with reasonable accommodations, and...
Read moreBest pet store for new puppies! Ask for CJ! Hi! Ok you could be like me and try to save money by getting food and toys and leash etc from petCO, Amazon, chewy but then you will end up returning things, or trying different products to replace the sub par one you got OR you can go to Fang and DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, spend a Little more money but you save time in the end and you have less headaches and a healthier puppy. And it ends up being the same price bc you don’t have to try several different kinds of things (harness, high reward treats etc) because you get the right product the first time after getting help and guidance from the SUPER KNOWLEDGEable staff!
Ask for CJ! She is like an encyclopedia of knowledge and she even knew my former pet food brand had a recall!!! I felt confident going w everything she recommended and the personal service she gave me made the trip and slightly higher price tag worth it a million times over.
Trust me on this one - I hardly ever write reviews but I want to save future puppy owners the hassle I’ve been through w the generic pet stores and encourage you to start here first. My pup is 12 wks and I’m so glad I discovered them now.
EVERY PRODUCT THEY SELL IS RESEARCHED and VETTED! So many good options- everything high quality. Your pup is worth it and so is your sanity and...
