I'm not sure I understand the raving reviews for this place as it was a big flop on our Portland itinerary. When I was researching places to visit in the area, the 5 star reviews for this establishment sealed the deal on whether or not we would take the time to visit and regretfully, we put it on the list.

Upon arrival, we realized we had to wear masks to enter, but did not see the box of masks that were outside of the building. I asked the woman at the window if there were masks, and she said yes we provide masks at the door. We walked right in thinking they would be inside the door, and she literally ran over and yelled at us "STEP OUT OF THE BUILDING NOW, THE MASKS ARE OUTSIDE THE DOOR". Her performance was a little dramatic for my taste, but the kids insisted we continue on to the "museum" even though I would have preferred to leave at that point. I paid $28 for my family and I to go into the "museum". What the "museum" really is are two rooms full of junk that you can take selfies with. I really thought this was a gigantic waste of money and was extremely underwhelmed by the entire experience. The kids half enjoyed it, and my sister laughed until she cried when I was reading the 5 star reviews to her aloud in the car after our visit. That was the only thing that made it worth the $28. Visit at your own risk! Who knows, you may find it was a "hoot" as did another visitor who gave a raving 5...

Three stars is for the price. It was ten dollars per person for a tour of the backroom. Earlier that day, we headed toward a garden. That only charged $5 for, I don't know, seventy acres of wandering around. The garden has way more upkeep and service than a little retail shop with a museum in the back. Not sure why such a hefty entry fee. 🤔 the museum was different and had some interesting things to look at, but nothing I'd write home about. I don't think I took a single picture in there.

EDIT AFTER THE STORE RESPONDED: I changed my stars from 3 to 1 star due to the unprofessional response. I would have left my stars if the reaction was just a thank you for visiting. My comparison of the garden to your store was relevant to the price I was comparing it to. I wonder has the place looked over their YELP reviews? I'd assume not. Most say the same thing I said, mainly about the cost and how quickly you are in and out of the place. I failed to mention that there is no parking except to pay for street parking. I traveled 40 mins to this establishment, not realizing it was the size of a food truck. Even if I were to read each detail of every item, it would not have been worth the money I spent on two people. Imagine paying a family of five to walk through the back of that store. I would have been livid to have spent that kind of money on that short event. Just don't bother...

Quirky, Interactive Fun – A Hidden Gem in Portland!

My daughter and I were in town for just one night and looking for something a little unusual to do. We only had about an hour before meeting up with the rest of our group, and the listing said it would take about 20 minutes to explore—so we said, “YEP! Let’s go!”

First bonus: It’s dog-friendly! (As long as your pup has good manners.) We brought along my grand-dog Zion, who is truly the best boi, and the owner was so warm and welcoming—excited to meet Zion and chat with us, too.

This place is just cool, quirky, and full of nostalgic charm. Admission is $10, and you’re encouraged to touch, climb, twist, open, push, explore—which made it way more fun than expected. It took longer than 20 minutes (in the best way), and we were late meeting the rest of our party, but we were having too much fun to care!

Inside, there’s a little gift shop full of fun trinkets, retro items from childhood, Bigfoot-themed goodies, and even an alien abduction mock-up that made us laugh out loud. Every corner has something strange, clever, or nostalgic to explore.

If you're into offbeat attractions, road trip oddities, or just want a good laugh and a little adventure, don’t miss this hidden gem in Portland. We left grinning...

The Peculiarium in Portland is a truly one-of-a-kind experience that deserves all five stars and more. From the moment you step inside, you're transported into a whimsical and eccentric world that captivates the imagination. The museum's collection of oddities, curiosities, and peculiar artifacts is both fascinating and delightfully bizarre, showcasing the creativity and unique spirit of Portland. The attention to detail in the displays and exhibits is exceptional, immersing visitors in a surreal and immersive environment. The friendly and knowledgeable staff enhance the experience with their enthusiasm and willingness to share stories and insights about the exhibits. Whether you have a penchant for the macabre, a curiosity for the strange, or simply a love for the wonderfully weird, the Peculiarium will leave you with a sense of wonder and a desire to explore the extraordinary. It's an absolute must-visit destination for those seeking a truly unforgettable adventure in Portland.

I love this. $7 for two Museum locations and the stuff is cool. I only spent 30 minutes here but it was worthwhile. The murder dollhouse was my favorite but I like dark things. If I were to enter a room and see someone sitting with their back to me, I would feel uncomfortable and I liked the decor in that scene. I was more excited than creeped out. I liked hearing about the owners and how they came about this collection. Side street parking is available. I parked down where the dead end street was and walked though it took a few rounds waiting for people to leave. The X Files poster was great. The owner is getting into AI art and have some for sale in reusable frames and they're really beautiful. The world's smallest theater is adorable. The Krampus is really cool. I'd say go check it out even if it's stuff you're not into because at least you can say you went and appreciate oddities and peculiarities out there.

Fun little spot in the weird city, and (yes!) dog friendly. $5 admission but free if you wear a decent costume. Several interactive exhibits and photo opportunities, including with Krampus (see below) and Big Foot. Though it is only a few rooms, there are many items along the walls and in cases. Lots to see if you really take your time. There is also a small area with oddities and merchandise for sale. Some logistics: on the first floor and appears wheelchair accessible. There is a bathroom for customers if needed. They do take cash and debit/credit. Parking is street parking but, as it is not located on the main street, it wasn't very difficult to locate parking (was paid through an app). It is close to other stores and restaurants which made it our first stop on a walk to check out some other spots.
