On a recent visit to Life of Pie Pizza, I had the Bacon, Roasted Leeks & Goat Cheese EVOO Pizza (pictured). It was excellent. The oven-roasted leeks and caramelized onions gave it a sweetness, and the bacon, mozzarella and parmesan a light saltiness on a mild extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) base. And, of course, Life of Pie's wood-fired crust is always fantastic. I also really enjoy their Fennel Sausage and Mama Lil's Peppers specialty pizza (also pictured). That said, I am typically a classic Pepperoni person, myself (sometimes with extra mozzarella), which I have ordered from them many times, but their specialty pizzas are a fun and interesting departure. One really cool thing about Life of Pie, is that they have a $7 Margherita pizza (no modifications) happy hour special for several hours, each day, if you want to be simultaneously budget-conscious and bougie. Life of Pie has several locations in the greater Portland, Oregon area, and I have never had a bad experience with any of them. If you like my photographs, feel free to check out my casual, and almost exclusively small / local greater-Portland-area foodie Instagram at [ Instagram: jonathan.grubb ]

Came here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! The place was busy but the order process is fast and once you place your order and find a seat it takes about 15-20mins for your food to arrive. Since we came during happy hour my friend ordered the Margarita Pizza that comes with fresh mozzarella, basil and cracked black pepper for only $5 which was a bargain. I on the other hand got the Truffle Mushroom pizza for around $15 and both were packed with so much flavor and pure deliciousness. The white truffle oil they use isn't strong at all and is the perfect balance to the mushrooms. Definitely a must try and can easily be shared since it can be more on the rich heavy side. The pizza bread here is soft and the dough is really kneaded to perfection. I could eat it for days! The only downside was they don't offer any chicken toppings for pizza and I love chicken on pizza to get my protein. They do however have a lot more options for sausages if you're into that or veggie options like artichokes, olives, etc. Street parking is limited so we parked further and scootered from downtown.

I wanted to go here after hearing that they have Napoletana Style brick oven pizza for just $5 every day for happy hour, it seemed a little unbelievable to me. But boy, was I blown away. the pizza was so delicious, and was brought to us super quick. it was fresh, cheesy, full-size with the perfect crust, better than napoletana pizzas at much fancier places. The ratio of marinara and mozzarella was perfect, and the entire vibe of this place is so chill, everything happens quick, and fuss-free. You order, grab your number, sit at the table and within five minutes your pizza is there. you can see the chefs working and flapping the dough around, such a joy. Plus, the vibe of the entire street (NW 23rd ave) is amazing, perfect for a stroll after pizza. it is a very light eat as well, I could easily eat a full pizza by myself without feeling queasy later. I wonder why it took me such a long time to visit this place. I think I am going to be a weekly visitor there now for sure. If you love brick oven fired napoletana pizza, get up and go here, and take your friends.

2023 edit: You have got to figure out your line for online order pick up. There is no reason to have online orders waiting in line with everyone else.

Original review: Ok let's start with the pizza. Wood fired. 900 degrees. 900 degrees makes great pizzas. They have a philosophy that's written on the wall: "Great pizzas are cooked evenly with light char and crispy bottoms that crunch when sliced through. When in doubt, throw it out." Their pizzas are amazing, and the happy hour prices exceed expectations, EVEN FOR PORTLAND SELF SERVE (at least for happy hour - regular prices are a bit higher). The best part about all of this? Sitting at the bar and watching the staff absolutely dominate in their respective roles of preparation, cooking, and communication, then watching them switch roles and continue to crush it. I am so impressed with this place, and we'll be adding it to one of our regular eat out spots. Keep up the great work!

EDIT: they make their own dough AND mozzarella!

EDIT 2: they now have a rewards program that gives you $5 off every time you spend $50, and if you come in on your birthday you get an extra 100 points ($10).

EDIT 3: don't let the naysayers steer you wrong: they use semolina, NOT corn meal to keep their pizzas...
