I came here for a group run and had the most bizarre experience ever. The only person who acknowledged and introduced themselves to me was also new. We went off running without anyone explaining what pace we were running at, what the route was besides vague keywords like, "waterfront" or "Tabor," or anything about the structure of the run. I moved to Portland three days ago so I don't really know my way around the city yet. In every other running group I've been a part of, we take the time to introduce ourselves, or at the very least point out those who are new, so that those who aren't new know who to look out for.
After less than a mile I lost the group because I was too slow, at about a 10:30 mile pace that I was planning on keeping up for 11 miles. When I finally rejoined the group back at the store, only one person talked to me, and no one apologized about what happened or even took the time to explain that I was running with the wrong group if that was the case. Which I'm fine with, but the website does say all paces welcome.
I lost it when a dog walked by after the run when people were talking, and suddenly everyone's social skills came into play, and they introduced themselves very nicely to the dog and took the time to talk to the dog. So apparently I'm less worth getting to know than a dog lol?
FWIW, I did come by two days ago to buy some gels, and they sold them to me. But if the culture of the associated running group is indicative of the culture of the store (which if it isn't why don't you like, do something about it?) I'm not risking my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy sister and I were walking our dogs the other day and saw this shop for the first time. I was in awe of the fact that they served beer at a running shop and I had stopped to take a photo of the bar through the window to send to a friend. Paula saw us from inside, popped out and invited us and the pups inside for a beer, we didn't have our wallets with us so we ran home, dropped off the pups and headed back. We spent an hour and a half there! We just visited and shared stories with Paula and Dave, talked shoes, trials, mishaps and of course pets. It was an absolute blast. I can't wait until COVID is over and we can have group runs again. I know for sure I will be getting my gear from PRC in the future. The only big thing that I noticed missing were Injinji socks... :'( but I was able to get a new hydration electrolyte mix to try and some defunkify detergent. Pretty happy to have such a wonderful local shop just down the road from me. I have been living in Portland for about a year and a half and this was a huge piece missing in my life. Having a strong running community relationship is very important to me and I think I finally found it in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy new favorite running store. Always like to check out the local running shops in cities we visit, and this place is well worth the stop. Huge location with a partial track inside, which is just awesome when trying on shoes (since treadmill testing can only tell so much). Great selection of shoes and gear, and they even have a pub with great local beers to sample while youāre shopping - are you kidding me?!? Worked with Dave and had great conversation, and he was kind enough to press their sweet logo on to some running tops we wanted while sampling brews. Had such a great experience, we came back the next day and got my wife fitted for a new pair of Hokaās to give them our business. Next time Iām town this will absolutely be a stop, and while Iām partial to my own running store back home this is a new favorite spot....
