I dined in at this location on Sunday 4/14 around 4pm. It was a busy day, service was extremely slow so my friend & I decided to only do drinks. Our waitress brought our check, we paid our tab and left. An employee named Blue who was not our waitress came running behind us yelling “hey you guys forgot to pay!!! You forgot to pay” out loud infront of the entire restaurant, I felt humiliated as everyone at the restaurant turned and stared at us, I told the employee Blue that we had paid our tab, I asked her to bring our waitress over so she can confirm to her that we had paid our tab , I was very upset and humiliated so I asked her to bring her manager and the waitress, she walked away, her manager Gabriel came over, I explained to him the situation, I told him his employee just humiliated me infront of the entire restaurant accusing me of walking away without paying my tab , the manager Gabriel seemed carless, he didn’t apologize for how we were treated. He looked annoyed. He came off as being very rude. All he could say is we’re really busy. Like he didn’t have time to deal with me and disscus what had just happened. That made me even more upset. I told him I feel like you’re not taking this incident serious what are you going do about it, he said what do you want me to do about it, I said I need your managers name, with a new attitude he said you can grab a card right there. I told him I would be calling the General manager and telling him about the incident that occurred. I asked him for an apology from his employee Blue, the manager Gabriel said I don’t think she wants to come over and apologize, I told him I would like an apology & my money back . So he went to grab the employee ,The employee Blue came over and said she was sorry and I was refunded. But this still dosnet fix the humiliation I faced in-front of the entire restaurant. I am a regular here, I visit this location 2-3 times a week for dinner, after todays incident I will not be coming back. Employees here need to be trained on how to deal with situations like this in the future. Because the way this was...
Read moreTonight I saw a rat run into the restaurant at the end of my dinner while I was waiting for my uber. My date and uber driver also saw it. Fix this. This is disgusting and detrimental to our health, safety, life. Shut the front doors, maybe it'll help. Get an exterminator. Everything else was great. I ended up completely on my date then on a table outside to avoid the rat. Most horrifying date and almost worst night of my life. This isn't okay. I screamed so many times at first it kept running back from where it came (at the end of the restaurant outside like halfway down the block), but once I was on the table I didn't scream bloody murder and it ran into the restaurant like it had tried the first few times. My uber driver said it was the size of a possum. I'm now disgusted, feel like vomiting, feel like sending a question to my doctor. Don't sit against the wall outside, that's where it likes to run along. I also wouldn't sit along the wall inside. Just disgusting. Rats can cause disease! This isn't ok! I debated posting this but the manager, owner, and others need to be made aware. I'm immune compromised and I'm sure others have it even worse than me. When you fix the issue, I'll try to edit this. Our waiter was great, very attentive, the I think white guy with the mask, best customer service ive experienced in a while anywhere to be honest! Also cool he was wearing a mask. Food was great despite not seeing it due to darkness (scary with the rat issue). Person who sat us was awful, led me to a table and put down the menu without turning around, saying a word or motioning and just kept walking without pause so I was confused whether it was my table. When I called to report the rat the person who answered said that's disgusting and they'll try to find it. Glad they had that response, shows they empathize and it may be new to them. I don't want to go out to eat for a long time now. Any way, I might go...
Read moreI absolutely love this Matador location. It always feels so alive. I love sitting by the windows to look out at people passing by on NW 23rd, especially on a rainy day, but my favorite seat is right in front of the fire pit! It’s not too hot, and gives it a very nice ambience. We only come during Happy Hour, to get a good deal, and it never disappoints.
The food here has always been delicious. Full of flavor and decent sized portions. During Happy Hour, their prices are pretty good, and you get the opportunity to try different things. I glanced over their regular menu though, and I think I’ll have to try something from there next time. There seems to be a lot of good options. We’ve only been here 4 times since we don’t live in Portland, but we try to pay them a visit when we can. The service has always been pretty friendly and attentive. I don’t believe we’ve had any negative experiences here with the food or the staff. Everything has always been pretty good. I do know they get busy, and one time, we had to go elsewhere because their wait was too long for us.
Please keep in mind that parking can be a biiitch in that area, so give yourself some time and go with a little bit of patience if you are driving over there.
Also, I am pretty sure they are 21+ ONLY. So call and verify if you have any minors.
This is a really good place to try different Tequilas. It’s actually what they’re known for, aside from their food.
I do recommend this place. It’s good, dim, cozy, intimate, but lively with upbeat music at the same time. Not a place to go if you’re looking for a quiet dinner. At least, not the times I’ve gone. Great for a date or meeting up with friends or family for some...
