The shop looks nothing like what is pictures, I found that very deceptive. Had no idea there's a huge flight of stairs to get to the shop, and I brought a baby in a stroller. So I had to collapse the stroller and carry it up like 40 stairs. How would someone with a wheelchair access this place? Speaking of access, this place is incredibly small and cramped. The space is not thought-out at all. It was quite full as the night went on and you have to climb over tables, chairs and people to get to the paints, oils, etc. Nothing was explained to us, you're just supposed to read the card on the table for how to do it. The two girls (who were like, 12 years old) working were running around with their heads cut off. It was very understaffed and poorly executed. My biggest gripe, the ice bath that we were told would only take 10 minutes, took 40. I'm pretty sure they got busy and forgot about us. I am still mad I had to pay full price for it all when it was so poorly executed. If I went to a restaurant that took forever to bring my food, something would have been done to try to make it better; nothing was offered here. I would never go back. Also, they have a community sink where you can wash your hands, with one hand towel that was sopping wet and disgusting that they never changed out. No napkins, no way to clean yourself up at your workplace, it was disgusting. It's a cool idea to make your own soap, but the experience here was not a good one. With the studio fee + price per gram, it adds up and you shell out a lot of money for not a good time. Save your money and skip this place. Would...
Read moreThis shop is a total hole-in-the-wall craft factory! It’s kind of hard to find because the donut shop and the wall of the building cover it; but you do go up a huge flight of stairs.
They have tons of molds like Bundt cakes, Star Wars, hearts, you name it. You have the steps on little cards to help you. it’s a very self guided type of place which I love. It’s a $6 lab fee plus $.06/gram of soap material. You get to pick scents, dye and paint them and then at the end they spray something that makes your soap shiny! The scents are what look like Doterra or similar so if that’s a no from you it’s not a requirement to scent the soap. I brought my 6-year old here and he loved his AT-AT! He did well with the process since it allows even the smallest of humans to be independent. All he needed help with was pouring the actual soap because it’s pretty warm. I did this as a day date as well, and it was so much fun to bring a huge group with! I’d recommend for high school kids who want a cheap but epic date, for 2 people doing medium soaps and lab fees it was $16.
This is the only type of crafting I’d suggest doing more than once over things like candle making or perfumes because it’s quicker, less prone to make you have a headache, and doesn’t require a load of attention from the employees.
These soaps and lab fees were $40 total roughly! (4 people)
We were there for just over an hour, they have games to entertain you while the soap is cooling so you don’t have a ton of downtime but you will still sit for a...
Read moreThis is a cute crafts/activity shop.
The process is as follows: You enter the shop, pick out the molds you want for your soap Pick out the scent(s) you want included in your soap Walk to the back area with tables (the worker will have set up a table for you) and pick out any mix-ins you want and the colors you want for your soap The employee will bring out the melted soap you pour the soap into your mold, add the mix-ins, color, and scent Stir the soap to mix it all thoroughly The worker will take your soap back to soak it in an ice bath The worker will bring the soap back out and you can paint it if you wish The worker will spray a sealant on your soap to help the paint stick and once that dries, you can pay and leave.
Overall thoughts: The Soap Factory is a misleading name for this shop. It's more of a "Soap Craft Shop." The soap itself can be kind of expensive. The cost of participating is $5 a person to enter plus the cost of soap ($0.05 per oz). If you take someone on a date and you both make a medium/large soap each, you should expect to pay around $20 for it all. I was surprised to find that the most fun part of the entire experience was actually painting the soap after finishing it. Definitely take that into consideration when choosing your soap mold because if you get one that won't require much paint, it might not be as fun for you.
All in all, this is a really cute shop that's definitely...
