If I could leave a negative review, I would.
Why this place got so may high ratings? It's because this is not authentic and sell americanized indian dishes. An authentic indian restaurant is like an underdog. Only true Indian food lovers would appreciate and go to such places. Others hype up undeserving places like this one.
The food was below subpar. Being an indian, I know what an authentic indian dish tastes like. I understand the temptation to americanize the recipes to attract wider customer base here in the US. So, that's not the problem. We knew what to expect going in.
We went in for the lunch buffet. Despite going in at 11:45 AM, the food was not set up yet. We had to keep asking if the naans were ready, appetizers were ready etc. We served ourselves some curries and waited at our tables for naans. We only wanted to eat naans and curries and they only served us little at at a time and made us wait when we asked for refills. We can ignore that too, given they were trying to make naans as the per the demand.
We asked for a diet coke. It was 80% ice cubes and 20% diet coke. And they did not provide refill on that when we asked for that.
Lets ignore that too. They are a business and just trying to make money.
One of the owners came by our table and saw that we left one of the curries aside. He asked about it. I said that I won't be eating it as it was sweet. He immediately said they don't add any sugar to their dishes (which was not what I was implying. Any indian would know that a dish can turn sweet without using sugar). The he started lecturing me about how wasting food is bad, how we should taste first and then serve only if we like it. Also about how they had a sign there requesting not to waste food and how they would be happy to keep serving us how much ever we want but not throw food away.
I politely replied that I follow the same philosophy but that particular dish was simply inedible for my taste. He insisted that I eat it with a chineese hot sauce. He actually brought one jar of hot sauce to out table and insisted that I eat the Indian curry with the hot sauce. Then he proceeded to bring another customers' USED PLATE from another table and showed me how i should be eating my food by putting it in front of my face.
Then he went on rambling about respect for food for another couple of minutes.
For all that talk, he asked me to order from the menu if I am to waste food. I guess, if I am paying al-a-carte prices, his principles and respect for food don't apply?
If it bothers him so much, they shouldn't be serving buffet. Do they not waste a single grain of rice at the end of each day? I find it hard to believe for a business in food industry. May be they are in the wrong field?
Having principles is one thing. Harassing customers is another.
Here is a tip for you India Palace: Learn to be respectful and understand boundaries. Stop with the condescension...
Read moreI have always enjoyed being greeted by the manager Amrik upon entering this very friendly authentic Indian food high quality high class restaurant. The prices I've always paid at different meal times is affordable and well worth every cent. The waiters and or waitresses are so on top of it and they're good looking charming and not at all too pushy about recommendations of what to try if Indian food is new to you. The kitchen area is kept immaculately cleaned on an ongoing regular basis by Ruby and her mother and they are like special attendants that tie off any loose ends all around the dining room, kitchen and dish washing station. They have just one person that handles the latrines two to three times a day and the dishwasher has a very efficient system to keep all the necessary dishes, cups, silverware, pots and pans in and out of the wash so proper and just in time for your third serving at the wonderfully delicious all you can eat buffets for much less than the restaurant that rhymes with buck a rama. This food is heart healthy, natural and organic ingredients that are fresh from the local produce. When you eat at India Palace in Provo you will be getting more than what it actually costs because the meals at the buffet are tailored to save you money not sacrificing the quality and no matter what your appetite you will feel full and elated plus happy you came. Mention to Amrik that I Sergio sent you and he may give y'all an extra treat for coming in. After very many precious moments with their outstanding catering service provided to various local businesses I joined the staff and had an awesome time working here and eating the best food in my life for free with take home meals for my small family of four all on the generosity of Amrik and his wife who also oversees India Palace, Curry Pizza, and now another two more Indian Food Restaurants in Salt Lake and Utah counties. Everyone is welcome and there's always something you will love eating every time you come back for more. I seriously couldn't put my finger on my favorite dish or entre because everything I ate tasted so good and I barely was able to try eating and trying just about everything they served in the six months I ate there six days a week twice a day and Man! You have got to try the various ways they prepare the chicken and rice and especially the vegetarian and vegan specials. Tell...
Read moreFollowing was my personal experience. Yours may vary. It is rare that I take time and effort to leave a negative review, and I never leave an emotionally charged review, but it’s been nearly a week, and the memorable experience hasn’t left me.
I saw the many favorable reviews, and I saw the many accolades posted within the restaurant, and was prepared for a great meal—though I do my best to keep an open mind and have neutral expectations. A fantastic meal was far from enjoyed. We had a terrible meal.
Firstly, the overall atmosphere of the place isn’t just laid back; it’s pretty dead. The two employees/waiters that we saw and interacted with were like zombies. I say this because they seemed to be unaware of what was happening around them, in our case, just being attentive and whether or not their guests were enjoying their experience. It’s as if they’re sedated. We ordered the mixed appetizer. It was barely edible. Half of the items were dry and overcooked. When the waiter finally came around and we told him, he mentioned that “they were made fresh today.”—that was it. He didn’t owe up to the lousy food, our lack of enjoyment, offer a new batch, or an alternative. He also still charged us for it. I order chicken korma. The dish tasted to me as if the chef had some precooked cut up pieces of chicken and tossed them into the sauce. The chicken wasn’t enjoyable at all. The sauce was ok. The rice wasn’t a quality long brain basmati, but more of a broken up medium grain variety. My girlfriend ordered vegetable biryani at a medium spice level. The options are mild, medium, or hot. When she received her dish, though it tasted good, the intensity of the heat kicked in after a couple of moments. We told the waiter that it was too hot, and that we ordered a medium heat level. His response was something along the lines of “the biryani has over 100 different spices in it.” What kind of a response is that?! It was then clear to me that the waiter just wasn’t getting it. We ate most of our food, left an undeservingly generous tip and left.
Never again. Highly...
