Aldi has an old fashioned style (original in Raleigh NC Calvary & Louisburg Rd.) at another location & this locations with a newer & different layout. Personnel are different; but, there to help you (busy refreshing shelves while you shop). You will need to bring your own bag, buy bags from them or feel free to use empty boxes you may find on the shelves. ALSO, TAKE A QUARTER; that is if you want to rent a card. If you rent a card, the quarter is refunded when you place your cart at the collection area. Watch others to see how ;)
I prefer this layout (similar to Lidl's and I prefer Aldi to Lidl: YMMV). Personnel are different and a few prices. All locations follow ALDI guidelines.
I don't like tons of choices when shopping ! Aldi has it's own branded products (made by the name brand people; ask Aldi online and they will let you know who supplies them, item by item). Aldi generally has one of each kind of item. Not 6 sizes of same item & not 16 manufacturers of each item. You want tomato soup, you get the item label & they sometimes have two types of that item. Cat food 4 flavors of canned cat food. Nice & simple. I hear the meats are great; I wouldn't know anything about that. I hear in Germany (Aldi & Lidl are German companies & very popular throughout Europe (better meat and bakeries there) ;) Aldi meets my needs for most of my grocery needs and on occasion, I have picked up something from their (not so grocery oriented & limited item exposure) specials aisle. I am one of those people that isn't so status quo (a bit Asperger'd) and a lot Vegan-ized. I like produce, a little skim milk (They have wide range of healthy choices) and salmon each day. In these areas, Aldi suffices for me. If you are status quo and love loads of sizes and brands, Aldi just isn't for you; however, you could still find some items that will keep a few bucks in your bank, where they belong. March 12, 2019: Two lb frozen salmon fillets (skin on, boneless) individually wrapped (3 to 6 oz ea) sale $4.59 usually $5.95. Skim milk gallon $1.80 (give or take a couple of cents). Stop in and try...
Read more2nd update:. Haven't been here in 2 years and was about what I expected. Produce was marginal compared to how it used to be (and compared to other options). Shelves had a lot of bare spots, prices jumped a bit (I do understand it went up across other chains too, the second grocery chain I went to had the same items 30% less). Half of the staples I used to get here were missing or really sad. The one employee was able to lay eyes on (cashier) couldn't care less of I was there or not. It will likely be another 2 years before I bother coming back to this location. Over all, the isles were much cleaner than last visit, they had the basics, prices are better than some chains BUT it isn't what it started as. Disappointed.
Update: Getting worse. Produce has been very disappointing in past few months (avacados are hard and green yet rotting inside past three purchases, snow peas recently changed packaging and now are picked too small and stringy).
Floors are in various state of clutter and filth still.
Meat prices don't match labels on packaging. When I asked, they said would ring up correct...wrong. over charged a quarter on my chicken. Fifty cents on the beef.
On last visit, the older cashier slammed my groceries so hard into my cart while scanning them she broke my cucumber.
I going to start driving past here since there is so much variety close by. I'll come back and try again sooner or later and see if you can come back to being my favorite stop. Wow, 5 stars to two in a short period of time...wake up call?
*It's gone down hill since the remodel. Spices are half the size for the same price. Fruit and produce isn't as fresh as I recall it had been. Always stocking carts and pallets in the narrow isles when it's busy...this used to be my favorite store but I shop at several now to make up for the short comings. They now have a better beer selection...I like the chocolate and...
Read moreOkay the question to ask yourself here is how much effort do I have to put in to spending a lot less 4 produce and groceries. This particular Aldis off Wake Forest Road is the worst I have ever been to. I am not a morning person, so when I take my friend it is usually 3 or 4 in the afternoon. He is very particular about his produce and about what he pays for it. There are always ads in all these flyers but they do not restock during the day in a timely manner so when we go in for specials in the afternoon the boxes are empty. If we do get there and there is something left it is usually picked over and not what he wants. Dairy items are extremely well priced and in good variety. The people in this Aldi store I'm not as nice as the people in the Wake Forest Aldi's and they do not have the choice of items that other Aldi's have. Things get moved around all the time and you never know where anything is. This is a very very busy store we always have to stand in line. They have built a brand new Aldi's up on Capital Boulevard next to the big wine shop in that strip mall. It looks beautiful we have yet to be that go there. Personally I prefer L i d l. They have a huge selection of wine at incredible prices and if, like me, you do nothing about wine they have all kinds of little notes that tell you what it tastes like and they have it rated by wine experts also. Additionally their cheese and dairy products are just so incredibly low priced and they have all kinds of cheeses in lumps chunks shredded or creamed. Their milk is a dollar something a gallon as opposed to 3 something in Walmart. Anyway I'm supposed to be reviewing all the this particular one I really can't recommend to anyone in light of the fact that there are so many others larger better stopped and with more help so you don't have to wait...
