We visited the Mordecai House on a cold fall day but it was nice and warm in the buildings. All of the on-site buildings are climate controlled and the tour for adults is $7 and of very good value. There are a few older buildings that have been moved to the site from around Raleigh including the birthplace of President Andrew Johnson. The tour guide was incredibly informed and went into detail about each building and the occupants. As history lovers, we greatly enjoyed this. Everyone on the tour enjoyed it as well. It was a decent sized group of people of all ages. We were informed they do living history events as well and we will be returning for that too. Something we especially enjoyed was the fact the furniture and the other items in the Mordecai Home are 98% original to the house which is not usual in historic homes. The visitor center had a very well put together museum section too and that was interesting. The whole thing makes for a very...

We found this to be very a very fascinating tour and a great opportunity to learn about how Raleigh became the city it is today.

The tour actually covers much more than I expected and the tour guides are extremely knowledgeable of the family history. In addition to The Mordecai house, the Park also includes the birthplace of President Andrew Johnson, the Ellen Mordecai Garden, the Badger-Iredell Law Office, Allen Kitchen and St. Mark's Chapel.

The tour allows you to see the entire inside of the house as well as the surrounding buildings located in there park. It was fascinating to see the architecture of the church and the amazing woodwork which you will never see replicated today. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Mordecai family sold off land, which was subdivided for the continuing expansion of Raleigh.

A very worthwhile...

My husband and I had our wedding ceremony at Mordecai Historic Park last month! It was an absolutely beautiful and intimate ceremony. We loved the historic chapel (which thankfully has AC)! Additionally, we had our guests shuttled via the Raleigh Trolley from the Longleaf Hotel to the chapel prior to the ceremony. After the ceremony, the Trolley brought guests from the chapel to our reception venue, Caffe Luna. Everything went extremely smoothly! Vanessa at Mordecai Historic Park was kind, patient, and helpful when planning the event. She helped me book the chapel/trolley and arrange the route with the driver. The trolley driver was fantastic! He played wedding themed music during all the rides. My husband and I are so grateful to the parks system and the wonderful staff who made this special...

Beautiful area and enjoyed seeing the birth place of our 17th president. But being a bit of historical buff I was disappointed that there were no signs or information posted out side the house or the small buildings that were scattered close by to the main house. We followed the signs that were directing people to the visitor center but still we're not able to even find it. The signs led us behind the main house and through a back entrance that was a main street in Raleigh. No sign posted on any of the buildings that identified the "Visitor Center". We didn't stay very long. There was a group of people about to enter the main house for a tour but there was nothing posted about the cost for the tour.

The weekend before Halloween, my wife and I went on the Ghost Guild’s ghost tour. The Mordecai house is suppose to be the most haunted house in Raleigh. It was fun and interesting. And FREE!! It started in the Visitor Center across the street with a power point presentation. Then we entered the birthplace of Andrew Johnson, the Chapel and the Mordecai house. I like that they make every effort to explain that their finding (mostly sound recordings) were explainable, and not actually ghosts. Though, they let you decide for yourself. One black image moving across the video lens was probably a spider or insect and not other worldly. Fun,interesting and entertaining!!
