I'd give 50 stars if I could! We're almost one year into a historical/science tour of the US and this place is in our top 3 spots!! (The other 2 are both in Alburquerque, NM.) The students working there were friendly and knowledgable and I learned a lot from Jack in the gift shop.
When I first rolled out of the elevator (in a wheelchair), I was met with huge dinosaurs in my face. Incredible! I turned to the left and found great exhibits on the fossils coming out of the Badlands. Even though I was at the Badlands visitors center just the day before - there was gobs of new information here.
From complete fossils, to amazing individuals pieces - the whole area was teeming with excitement for me. The way they've laid out the skeletons really makes them 'come alive' and my imagination was going wild.
On the other side of the museum it was all about rocks. My dad was a chemist at a copper mine, so I'd grown up learning a lot of what was there - and there was still something new around every corner - what a fun place!
My only regret is that we forgot to take some rocks we have questions about, but one of the students happily gave me an email address to send pictures to. So hopefully my questions will get answered even after we leave the area!
I really think the only way I could've had more fun (aside from remembering to bring the rocks in) is if I were able to go there every day. LOVE...

Read moreI just went and it was free or maybe it's suggested that you donate and I didn't realize... at least there was no pressure to donate but I would have if I noticed the donation box. Either way it was a awesome place to learn a little bit about the areas geology and prehistoric past . It's not a huge place so it won't take you long to make your way through if you wanted to be quick about it but they have lots of fossils and awesome rocks / minerals and information to read if you want to take it slow . Very cool place . They also have a gift shop with unopened geodes for sale for not much money , good fun for the kids to open . I really wanted one but I already have so many and really had no place to put it maybe next time I will get some . I love geology and I needed a place to get out of the rainy weather during the Sturgis rally last weekend , They were really nice and welcoming... Thanks for...
