Visited in December 2022 the week between Christmas and New Years. Parking is on street only. Had to do one lap to find a spot. There is signage on where to go. Main entrance and inside court yard area. Small exhbit area with store front. There is also movie room with 20 min video which is a must before starting tour. Tour happens right after movie which they show every hour except noon from opening to closing. There is a junior ranger program here specific for Maggie Walker National Historic site along with special cancellation stamp if you collect those. They do have their own collectable token as well.
The movie was very interesting and we all learned alot. Then the tour of the house was best. Ranger who gave the tour (also DnD enthuist) was amazing and enteracted with our kids (13, 10 and 7). She explained the history of the house and the additions and the items inside which were original and belonged to Maggie Walker. Definitely worth a visit if you're in town. We spent maybe 90 mins and alot of it was interacting with the rangers and completing the junior ranger program. I would guess most people wouldn't spend more than an hour here total. Worse part was probably trying to find parking. There was one other family that toured with us and also at the time of our visit the mask mandate was reinstated so all NPS in Richmond...
Read moreI would have given this a five, however, the staff made it a four . I went here this past Saturday with a group of friends. It was for my birthday celebration. I had about 10 people so I called to reserve a tour spot. I am not sure what the deal was, but both times I called the people who answered the phone started off aggressive and rude from the beginning. Regardless, I was told it was on a first come first serve basis, but if I showed up earlier enough I could hold spots for my 10 people. Once I got there they tried to tell me if anyone else showed up prior to all of my people arriving then some of them would not be able to participate in the tour. The guy was extremely rude from the moment I mentioned I was there to sign up my 10 people. We argued! It was bad. However I let it go. I wanted it to be a good day. Things worked out m. Two other people showed up so we there was 11 people. They said the max was 10. They allowed all 11 of us on the tour. The tour guide, Maddie, was amazing! She shared so much information with us and made this tour fascinating. I do recommend visiting this museum and taking the tour. Just be prepared that some of the staff may not be the...
Read moreExcellent experience. Free to the public Off street parking does make it a bit difficult but free parking is an option. When you arrive you may have to wait depending on what time the next group tour starts. Lucky for me I had about a 15 minute wait so not too bad. You will get the option to watch a video which I highly recommend. It gives you a more in depth idea as to who Maggie Walker was and what she did to make a difference. The ranger (guide) was very friendly and knowledgeable She was very open to explaining and answering questions along the way. If you have children this is an excellent place to come They have an interactive approach to getting the children to really embrace learning of the history and participating in the tour. My child was given a booklet with different tasks that needed to be completed in order to receive a ranger badge . My child is fairly small and this was enough to keep interest and allow me to focus...
