I make all my reviews as honest as I can. One of my biggest issues with this location is the fact that there is three entrances to get in, but only one set of elevators at work. Now that wouldn't be the worst thing if that was the only issue. Half of the time when you called for an elevator, you'll be sitting for a good 5-10 minutes so don't be in a rush anywhere. The breakfast options for a two-star hotel where exactly that subpar for a two-star. Sausage patties are okay boiled eggs in a bag are okay but try not to run out of items like waffle mix. Next I want to go ahead and talk about the room. The room was not the room that was advertised when we had spoken to the receptionist. The size of the room is not bad, the issue I have is the fact that when I went to put my drinks in the fridge, they were frozen when I brought them out. Can you explain to me why you would take and turn a refrigerator all the way up to max, and then tear off the handle so nobody else can adjust it? I also come from a time period when you spend $200 and something dollars a night, certain amenities like housekeeping are included automatically. Also for two star hotel, I was kind of disappointed in how pitiful the pillows were. I give my dogs better pillows at home. That's not to be a bougie person, that's just to say that I actually care about their neck health and as a business owner I think you'd worry about everybody else is not just what's cheapest For You especially when you're a multi-billion dollar corporation like Hampton Inn & Suites marriott. Nothing I have said so far has been false or of opinion. Everything has been...

Let’s start with the basics:
🚗 Parking No complimentary option. You’re either stuck paying:
$40+ for valet, or
$21/day to park off-property in a detached public garage. That’s right—not even on the hotel premises. Inconvenient, overpriced, and unacceptable.
📶 Wi-Fi (if you can even call it that) Marriott claims they offer "free Wi-Fi." Here's the truth:
I clocked speeds of 1.48 Mbps and 1.68 Mbps download.
Upload? Basically nonexistent.
Ping over 140 ms.
No chance of working remotely, streaming, or even sending a simple email.
I’m an IT professional. These weren't random results—I ran tests minutes apart to confirm it wasn’t a fluke. Screenshots attached. This is 2025, not 1995. Even a gas station has better internet than this hotel.
☎️ Customer Service – Or Lack of It Tried calling the front desk twice to ask about the issue. No one answered. Not a busy tone, not a hold queue. Just ignored. What kind of hotel doesn’t answer guest calls? One that has no interest in customer satisfaction.
For the price of this hotel, you expect professionalism, working internet, and basic service. Richmond Marriott Downtown fails on all three. It’s a ripoff, and I will never stay here again.
If you're traveling for business, stay literally anywhere else. You’ll get more value, better internet, and at least someone who will...
Read moreDon't stay here unless you want to get charged a smoking fee for no reason! My fiancé and I decided to stay at this hotel while we were in Richmond meeting with some of our wedding vendors for a weekend. We truly had a great stay and were raving to everyone about how nice the hotel was! Unfortunately, our experience took a sharp turn after we checked out. We were shocked to find an unexplained $150 charge on our credit card. When we reached out to the hotel, we were told it was a smoking fee — despite the fact that neither of us smoke. We were never notified during our stay of any issue, nor did any staff member contact us about concerns of smoke at the time. When we asked for proof, we were told a sensor detected an issue with air quality. After doing some research, we found that these sensors can be triggered by completely normal things like steam from a shower, perfume, or cleaning products. In our case, the “incident” they claimed coincided with the time we were simply showering and getting ready for bed. We’re extremely disappointed by how this situation was handled — especially as loyal Marriott customers. No investigation, no communication, just a surprise charge and a vague explanation. This experience has left us questioning whether we’ll book with Marriott again in the future. Always check your charges after staying...
