I live in Va. Beach and seen an article about this place on google and knew we were coming to Richmond this weekend, so i made it a point to stop by and check it out. I never would of found it since I'm not from Richmond, so my wife and I brought her sister and husband, their daughter and a niece. What a great little shop kinda like what I call "a little mom and pop shop" where you hang out and get to know people. As we were coming in the door way, we were greeting by a customer inline. We made my way around the small 2 aisle store looked at everything they had then we grabbed what we wanted to try different chips, candy, and drinks that you cant get at a 7-11, the price wasnt cheap, but with it all being imported I knew going in we were going to spend some money. Yes the price's aren't posted , but I've always heard if you gotta know the price then you shouldn't buy it, so I'm not complaining about what I paid for what we bought. I did not get the lady's name who checked us out, but she did say she was the owners Mother, she was friendly as could be. So if you have the chance, go by check and it out try something different tasting then the stuff you can buy at your...
Read moreCute little store, has a decent sized selection of imported products. I expected a mark-up on these items being imported, but I was blown away with what the mark up was once we checked out.
As other people have stated, there is no prices on anything, so I was maybe expecting our bill for 7 items to be around $50 bucks. Our total was a tad over $100. One of the Fanta drinks, which was a regular sized soda bottle, was $25.99. I was told it's because it was discontinued. We took off three drink items, which brought the bill down to $50 for 4 items, one of them being a $10 bag of single serving chips.
I'm unsure how this place will hold up charging those kinds of prices, but people seem to be paying them as they post everyone's purchases on their Instagram story. Like other's have also stated, a lot of these items you can find at local Asian groceries around Richmond for a quarter of the cost, or even online.
I don't plan on going back, which is a shame because I would have loved to try more and support a local business but I can't justify spending that kind of money on...
Read moreAwesome little market in Jackson Ward with tons of foreign and hard-to-find snacks you won't find in Asian or European markets. You will see reviewers complaining about the prices - yes, they're very high and they don't seem to have the items stickered - but the prices are fair. A bottle of soda might run you $18 - but liquid is heavy and very expensive to ship. Add overhead and the ability for the staff and owners to earn money and you get an $18 bottle of soda. Shopping will be a little easier on your wallet if keep in mind that you're mostly paying by weight. (Exception: chips can also be expensive because of how they have to be shipped.)
The person who said they can get the same stuff in Tokyo Market must have picked a very select few items, like Hi-Chew. I frequent Tokyo Market and none of the things I wanted to buy have ever been in there.
One Way is well worth it if you treat it like the luxury shopping trip it is. $18 for a soda or $9 for a bag of candy is cheaper than a plane...
